I often wonder that, myself having 100 or so unfinished little loops.
Of the 40 or so tracks I've finished (only about 5 really count), I've noticed the pattern is in the way you write.
YOu can't go "I'm a producer, I should just go make a track," go, sit down, start playing with your piano and some synths, etc.
You realize "hey, I'm a person, XXXXX really meant something to me, I'm writing a track," then i go sitdown and create some original SOUNDS first and compose from there.. those don't get boring. Hope this helps.

Everythime I open the Cubase or Reason, I try many patterns (drums and basses), and many sounds for kicks, hats, and basses...
Until now I don't have one track, BUT I want to compose 10 tracks for a cd compilation.
These 10 tracks may have similarities: like the tracks structures, track sounds and patches and mastering, then I have a work with 10 (+/-) "compatible" tracks...
I hope you can understand my idea on my poor English.
What I'm trying to say is: Your work isn't done until it keeps THE place you want on the music scenario you are trying to publish (disco houses, spread on internet, for djs play or to play alive). You have to fit your job to your interests...
Ah, invite some friends, play your music and see if everybody is dancing... if they are dancing good!! Trance Music is to keep the floor dancing! (try to avoid alchool a lot, because if you put waltz they will keep dancing hehe)
