I only let people that I'm teaching touch them really, and some people that are interested and don't really want to touch them as they know its expensive stuff, my friends that are kinda full of themselves, well when they go near, I got my fist pulled back and ready.....JUST incase.

Oh yea, other DJs can play on them for obvious reasons.

I never let them touch my vinyl, unless its another experienced DJ and I've informed them to *only* touch the outermost and inner-most part of the vinyl. I generally don't like peeps to use my vinyl. If I see that they dis-obey the vinyl rules, they are cut off from using my records.
As for my Turntables - Unless you know how to use the TT's, and have experience with them, then you can use them *with your own* records.
I teach peeps the art of beatmatching/phrasematching on my cd players. Since I have the old-ass American DJ DCD-pro400 , I don't really care what they do to it. Hopefully the cd players break when they use it so that I can demand that they pay half for a set of new, replacement cd players. haha. j/k

I know..im a dik with my gear.

sure, i dont care. they can't break all that much. I have bought a total of 6 ortofon cartridges now because people break off the handles (I really hate that about them). They really can't harm my equipment much and the vinyls I give them are one step from the trash anyways. I let them use the CD tables without any worries because they're not going to break those. It's mostly girls I bring over who want to play on them anyways -- and they are never rough with the equipment to begin with. But tons of people have used my equipment since I bought it - including the A&M football team and the equipment has survived just fine.

+1

if its someone who has an idea of what they're doing then yea...

one thing that i cant stand... when i let a buddy spin and i tell him to put everything up when hes done, i come back and all hes done is press stop - needles still on the records, sleeves all over the place(i dont understand how it would make sense to need to pull out the entire sleeve and lay it down somewhere just to play a record - just grab the vinyl and leave the sleeve in the bag/case)

Well, my carts are Whitelables and the metal portion which holds the needle was all bent to hell. Funny thing was that I didn't notice it until the day after when I attempted to mix. Talk about a suprise. I'm not to sure how it happened but I suspect someone knocked the tonarm off it's rest and it smashed the stylus into the side of the platter. Oh well, you live and learn and my local record store carries the Whitelable styli for $20 so it wasn't that bad of an experience.

Select friends I'll let use them. But there are some who aren't worthy, either that or they dont care to have a try.

But there was this one little punk at my first show on NYE, while I was getting ready to cue up my next track trys to fucking scratch on my shit! Needless to say I was a bit pissed and got his ass far away from my tables.

It was a semi-crude setup that was too accessible to the party but still you just dont fuck with a dj's shit while he's on.

To my satisfaction he wound up in a fight with my brother in which I promptly jumped in and hammered on him.

I guess thats his payback for messin with my shit.

i dont have decks but i do have about $1500 worth of studio gear for production and i dont mind my friends using it since they tend to take of care of it anyway. BUT. we are all smokers. and smoking over my gear is a big no no since some of my mates do it without thinking. or cuz they are a bit stoned and forgot. one of my mates has been smoking over his DJM 500 and hes fucked it with spliff ash in the channel faders. 2 of channels no longer work and the crossfader has a gritty feel to it, probably grinding up bits of bud and tobacco with every use. crying shame. for this reason, id like to be around when they do use my gear so i can jump in with an ashtray when the ciggy/spliff starts to hover around my access virus b.

realistically, if you touch my decks and don't know what you are doing, you die.

i only let people that i KNOW have a clue touch them.

i generally dont mind people using my decks as long as they dont fuck around on them. coz when they try mixin then i do a mix for them - they think im god
the one thing that all my mates (who dont know anything abt decks) do when they are in my room is play with the pitch fader. theyre fukin fascinated with the thing!

one time i was makin a CD for my then-girlfriend. i was in the middle of a mix when she became curious as to what that little funny shaped slider was for. so she pulled down on that bad-boy and a trainwreck insued. i was furious. kicked the bitch out!
