I actually participated in a SF competition at one of the local universities, but I wasn't really all that good at that point (more of a Tekken player in those days). I figured I was going to get my ass kicked but I felt like competing anyways.
However, there was a slight variation on this SF tournament. There would be a different version of a SF game at each competing console. So, as chance would have it, despite being paired up with an old SF expert, I ended up playing Super Puzzle Fighter 2: Turbo! I'd played this game before, and was even a little good at it, but this old pro had never played it before, and I ended up defeating him and going on to the second round!
...Where I got my ass served to me on a bronze platter.
