Confused

Honestly, you people have way too much facken time on your hands! Who cares about old-skool games, thats the past. Technology is changing every day, you just can't expect everything to be the same. I, myself, like games that have amazing graphics & sound. Back in the day, games were a lot harder ofcourse, which was a advantage but come on, the characteristics of the game sucked! lol Also, I think that games will start to look more realistic year by year. Just enjoy the technology and have fun, don't complain

Maybe we like the old stuff because that's what we grew up with.

Like with the final fantasy stuff, a lot of people are saying that ff6 or what have you is the best ff game ever (and this is old school 2d SNES kind of game, and I gave up after playing it for 20 min), but after playing ff7, ff10 etc I can't bring myself to play ff6 even though its so acclaimed. Why? The incredibly limited graphics and game engine.

On the other hand, I have no problem playing game boy Zelda games (same deal as ff6) because I used to play them as a little kid, and totally loved them. In fact Id rather play old school Zelda on gameboy over Ratchet and Clank even though RandC has waaay better graphics, etc.

Im sure you guys will be able to come up with your own examples of this.
So yeah, my conclusion - it's because we grew up with these games that we like them so much, and its a trend thats going to continue with each generation of gamers.

the point that im trying to make blue_neon is that a lot of games now and days are focusing on visual appeal rather than quality and gameplay. (for instance Doom 3 which was only visually appealing for the first hour or so) every once in a while we see games that take creativity and technology and marry the two making a really really good game, but that is extremely rare. People are just focusing on releasing as many games as possible rather than games that will always be remembered and revered by people in the gaming community. Now i dont really see a much of a point in getting in to an argument over the whole subject, im just saying i dont like it

While your first post was pretty stupid, I must admit, now that you expanded on your thoughts you are right, ALMOST.

It's funny that you mentioned 1994, because amazingly enough, this little console known as Playstation was released around that time, which changed the industry into a cash-cow. And now Microsoft is taking it one step further (look at the Halo 2 hype. People believe it's the 2nd coming of Christ).

But all hope is not lost. There are many games out there that aren't just about the flash that have been released since 94. You just dont hear much about those games because nowadays it's all the cool kids who think video gaming started in 1994, and that the greatest games ever are Grand Theft Auto or Halo. Just like in music, "cool" is what sells.

I thought i was the only one that felt this way. Ever since the new consoles came out games have just lost their spark for me. I try to get into them but never like i used to. I used to be able to sit up late at night stairing at the screen for hours upon hours not even blinking. Now i'm luck if a game keeps my interest for more than a single hour. They just aren't as fun as they used to be. I think its a lot like todays movies. Back in the day they didnt have all of these special effects and they were forced to be creative and make the best out of what they had. Now they just throw some CG crap on it.

Same think that is happeneing to movies. People nowadays are using CGI as crutch instead of a bonus and creativity is going sown the shithole.
