then why is illegal downloading going down.

if they make legal downloads cheap and easy, and continue to make illegal downloads difficult then legal downloads should thrive

this to me spells out the begining to an end for record labels of established artists. who needs a label to sell their own music online via their own personal website..?

i'd rather buy cd singles still though.

good point, as long as they really clamp down on illegal downloads its a cool idea. I still dont wana see cds go though, that would be a shame. like someone else said u dont get the artwork, credits etc. its just not complete without that. anyway im sure cds will be around for a while yet! i can see vinyl getting much less popular in the next 5 years

I think that thinking that legal downloads will take over from CDs is about as stupid as "Home taping is killing music"

I hope they do get the digital act together. I'd rather pay for a download of a single rather than going out and finding the cd.

I wish somebody would make a sort of supersite however, including any song you could ever ask for, with one account, so I don't have to go different places for different songs.

I love being able to purchase tracks online and have them to play instantly. It's great for when I need some new tracks at the last minute for my radio show. The only download store I've used so far is Beatport and I love it. I have found so much new music that I probably would've never bought on vinyl because spending $10 on a vinyl after only hearing a 3 minute clip is riskier than spending $2 on a download. I think if Beatport added Lost Language and Hooj Choons to their roster than I would be in heaven. Although I believe you can download LL tracks at city16.

that's a very ignorant statement. cds will never cease to be sold coz most new (and old, for that matter) psychadelic and its subgenres are released cd-only.

true, but that's why sometimes if you're a collector, then you can always consider buying the album for collecting and the digital tracks for playing

The music industry is changing...cd's and vinyl will always be available, it's just that mp3's are replacing them. If the recording industry had been smart from the start they would have done digital download's to begin with. The whole digital download is great IMO, they'll never be out of stock and it's easy to find what you want.

Just a question for everyone regarding this... Do you think the record labels are making less money? I think they are probably set to make even MORE money and this will benefit them as well. Now they can sell an infinite number of tracks with no need for physical restraints (such as packaging/shipping/etc.). Imagine how much money they're saving by using online marketplaces versus traditional vendors/retailers.
