In the beginning there was Jack. And Jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box Jack boldly declared "Let there be house!" And house music was born. I am the creator and this is my house and in my house there is only house music. But I am not so selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes our house and our house music and you see no one man owns house because house music is a universal language spoke and understood by all. You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless you're deep into the vibe of house. House is an uncontrollable desire to jack your body and as I told you before this is our house and our house music. In every house you understand, there is a keeper and in this house the keeper is Jack.

At least by quoting he shows that he's well versed in message boards. (Or that he's a current user here trying to trick us in some fould ploy...).

ASOT stands for A State of Trance, Armin van Buuren's weekly trance show. GDJB stands for Global DJ Broadcast, Markus Schulz's weekly trance show. You can catch both of them over at www.ets-global.org. Armin's has been cancelled for now, but it'll probably be going again soon.

As someone else already stated, the people who stick around here generally have heard it all, so they have very specific tastes, usually songs no one else has ever heard of (they like it that way, it makes them unique /sarcasm). And generally they will come out and flame you for liking what you like.

That being said, listening to GDJB and ASOT as a new trance fan is a good idea, it'll get you a lot of new tracks to try out, and you can get a feel for some of the music. And check into Music Discussion and new releases for current hot tracks.

Wow, thanks - that's more suggestions than my budget can take!

Recently, trance has gone from bad to utter crap. I suggest you don't listen to it.

Spoken by someone with this avatar. :-)

Anyway, I'm too new to trance to know if I like the good stuff or the bad stuff or both. (For example, I've been watching movies long enough to know I generally don't like crappy movies, but that wasn't always the case, and certainly isn't true of my friends' tastes. But my movie tastes are generally more critical than my music tastes. For example, I enjoy hair metal even though most of it 'sucks,' and there's a lot of reportedly really good music I don't care for.)

BTW, does 'trance addict' imply that most people here don't like much music besides trance, or that trance is their favorite genre?

Alot of people here don't like trance, as it is presented by ASOT and GDJB (which would be the majority of it, it seems). Only morons listen to those radio shows.

So stay away from it. Go back a few years and listen to the older stuff, it'll do you good.

I bet thats going to step on some toes

Most people who listen to EDM have seperated the one genre into several sub genres. While it exists in the conscious of many Americans, and other noobs as all being Techno, devotees of several of the subgenres have emerged.

Some of the more popular sub genres around here are trance, prog (progressive trance and house), house, psy, breaks, and possibly some industrial

I refer you to Ishkur's webpage who has put it much better than most:
http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html

(Or, you could just tell people you listen to electronic music)

clubbing might also help you find your stylistic niche; seeing a variety of djs up close will help winnow away the stuff you find least desirable and it will give you a better handle on the edm scene as a whole

Yea, I'd recommend that or hitting up some of the various online stations.

It means one day we liked trance - some of us just don't listen to it anymore. Sincerely, I like Acid Trance and NRG, which would be considered Hardhouse and Acid Techno by most users, so...
