the simple gauge of this is whether people pay money to listen to your tunes. so you are a professional when you are earning money from your production. 'professional sounding' tunes would be songs that you create which you believe are competing with the quality and workmanship of your average currently signed tune.

course. theres plenty of great work out there that isnt earning money, made by people that are still technically amateur producers. only their work is fucking amazing. that said, there are also people who have record contracts with songs which really are not that inspired. its pretty clear cut whether you are professional or not. its not quite so clear cut whether what you produce is actually any 'good.' but 'good' is such a subjective thing its difficult to draw a distinction.

i seriously have to consider putting all my music gear in a cupboard during assessment time and locking the key in one of my flatmate's glove compartments in their car.

that way, every time i wanna write a tune when i should be doing an essay i have to ask my mate for the key, run down 4 flights of stairs, treck to the back on monte's carpark. treck all the way back, up 4 flights of stairs, open my cupboard and reconnect all my synth gear. promptly die of exhaustion and never consider doing it again.

its looking like the only way. after assessments are done you should give us a buzz and me and some mates can all get together and write some phat ass tunes. get your work done first though eh?

i need to take my own advice alot more seriously
