i think for anyone looking to actualy make a name for themselves a web site is essental. there are far more people on the net than there are in your home town.
on top of that sending a speculative letter with a cd to a club about playing is fine but to have a web site that the booking guy can have a look as adds something more. also some random person could stumble upon your site like what you do and book you. yes its a long shot but every little helps.

at the end of the day these sites benifit the people serious about continuing and the posable benifits of having one easily outweigh the fact a few people find it anoying.

I could be way off on this, but I think the real reason that Wink is annoyed with all the personal websites is that every time he sees one, he is reminded of how other amateurs are working just that much harder at getting recognized.

I know I am that way. Everytime I see an amateur mix getting tons of praise or everytime I see a really nice amateur DJ website, I get just a little bit jealous because it reminds me that I should be working on that great mix, or I should be working harder to get my name out. It's human nature, and I can only assume Wink feels the same things.

Ideally this is an open music community, and music isn't a competition. But DJing is a business, and so competition is always lurking beneath the surface. Thus, jealousy of another's accomplishments, regardless of how insignificant, is only natural.


...or maybe the sites are just lame, and Wink is a stickler for original web content. I don't know.

Real DJs put effort into track selection, not just mixing. You won't ever make it big if that sloppy record selection is your attempt at being unique.

Holden actually made it big because Nick Warren liked 'Solstice' so I hear. and he liked it for good reason. I don't think Holden was a Dj first. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Disco Boomer began djing in 2002. His style was first influenced by the Detroit scene at teh time. After djing for one year he moved to Las Vegas and explored other music genres. His musical taste spans many genres including progressive trance and house.
