I realize that what "race" truly means today can be argued and debated all day long without resolution. Twice I typed a reply doing just that. Then I realized that right now there are probably several philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, archaeologists, historians, and various other kinds of professional scientists pondering the very same question of race in search of an answer. People twice my age with more than twice my age in experience. I also realized that the internet always seems to bring out the inner pseudo-philosipher in us all sometimes. So I decided to be even more of an idiot and type this message out instead.

the idea of race-as-a-cultural-construct has been par for the course in virtually every subfield of the humanities and social sciences for the past 30 years.

there is no "answer" because there are no absolutes

Your examples offer some clear-cut evidence on how being the minority group may have it's advantages. The advantages of being the majority group in modern society is more subtle and by far outweights the advantages of the minority. Let's remember, you and your peers may not be discriminant but a great number of people are. Pres. Bush, for all his faults, was still voted back into office because 51% of my country's citizen saw it fit to vote him back. I didn't vote for him and maybe 10% of my friends voted for him. After last year's vote I've come to the realization that I am a minority both in race and political views. The same can be applied to discrimination. Because of lawsuits, discrimination isn't as obvious than a few decades ago but it still exists on society as a whole. Until discrimination is no longer an issue, it's not going to fair for either side.
