Ghost Ship has my favorite scene (opening scene when the wire snaps) but my favorite horror movie is probably Wishmaster

Evil Dead
- Dunno if you count this as a b-movie because of the $50 000 budget but for me it's one of the best horror movies.

Dawn Of The Dead (Romero's original, not the recent remake)
- This is a classic zombie movie, me likes.

Hellraiser II
- Pretty gory and freaky.

The Shining (original extended cut)
- the long version (about 146mins) is cool, more blood and explaining details than in the director's cut (115mins).

The more recent horror flicks aren't that special really.. most of them are just way too "Hollywood" to be actually good as movies. And i can't stand the Hollywood way to remake every good thing in this world.. such as Dawn Of The Dead, The Ring,.... the originals are already as good as they get, they don't need to be remade damnit!

I don't really get scared by horror movies as I'd been desensitized by them from a very early age. However, Gremlins is probably the scariest goddamn movie I've ever seen (Not anymore, but I saw it when I was 4 and I think it scarred me).

However, I really enjoyed:

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
This movie needed a remake. I don't care what you think. The first one was complete and utter shit, and I doubt that many of you were there for its original release in 1978, so don't even pretend as though it's good just because it's the original. In any case, the remake was awesome! Great music (I know it'll be dated in 20 years, but the music from the first one was absolutely horrid), great characters, great zombie effects, and, as the first one did for its time, it pushed the limit for what we can show in theatres. Zombie baby? Priceless.

The Ring (2002)
I'll admit: I never saw Ringu. However, I really enjoyed this movie because fo its pacing and ambience. The music was spot-on eerie and the entire film kept you interested and in suspense. It was very, very weird and I think that scares people more than anything because the threat of something they don't understand seems far more realistic than something we could fabricate and bend to our will. There was something very enigmatic about that girl and about the environment in that movie - it juxtaposed harsh city edges and misty countryside - yet, neither seemed to be as accurate as it should have been; there was a dark, displacement - as though somethign was just off-kelter for the entire film, very comparative to the static and her bending through reality to the other side fo the television. Very effective.

if anything house of 1000 corpses would be tops not for the scaryness, mainly for the fact that theyre one fucked up family and the entire time youre watching youre thinking damn these ppl are crazy


even though it wasnt a horror movie, i think that scene in Signs where he looks out the window and the alien is just standing on the roof looking at them was pretty freaky... personally id shit a brick right there on my daughter if i were him - then id go find a good sniper rifle, some pistols, run to toys r us and pick up a few super soakers, water balloons, and that one system where its a headset water gun tht shoots when you yell into the mic and find a good spot to camp the ******s

Other than the visual effects, Dawn of the Dead was still a basic, campy zombie movie.

Well i saw Dawn of the Dead original when i was 4 (1982) and it freaked me out for quite a while.. years later i saw it again and ever since it just has had the lil' magic for me the remake hasn't catched up yep. Same goes for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it's remake, mostly the reason i don't like the remakes is the "hollywoodization" as i said. I don't pretend to like anything. The DOTD might have needed a remake which actually is great i agree but for me the original still is better, also Argento's slightly different cut of it works.

By the time i went to grade school, i had seen about all the best horror flicks at the time, lots of Argento, Romero and other old skool horror director's stuff. That's where i originally got my nick (back then in Finnish tho), from watching so much horror and otherwise scary movies.

As for the Ring, Ringu is better at some parts and worse at some parts so it's kinda tide with that one for me. Both are good but have their good and bad parts which could have been made differently. All'n'all movies just as music is more or less all about taste. You like or don't like, that's it and you don't need to care what others say.
