Yeah Fruity Loops was a pretty funny name, my friends would ask what was I doing and I would be like using Fruity loops, and they'd laugh at me.

I started out with Fl Studio, pretty easy to get going and creating sounds. I used some of the commom vsts, vangaurd, albino, z3ta, reaktor and played around creating simple leads/pads/melodies. Like many have said download some qaulity samples, kicks, hihats, percs. Sit down and play around, experiment, only way your going new the program.

Like other threads have said, sit down and listen to song, learn the structure

Thats my wonderful advice for a newbie

There's nothing wrong with reason or Fl, People will argue both sides basically its just wantever your comfortabe with. I started with FL just becuase its easily available, now that I have been using it for a long time, just dont and have the time or reason the learn something new.

Fruity is much easier to learn than reason imo and its cheaper

I meen if you got FL5 it comes with Styrus which you can create some good leads and very nice pads to

Just get FL5

FL? Reason? Why do these programs seem to be the only production tools in existence?

Get creative. Use whatever tool you feel necessary. It doesn't matter whether it's burying yourself in a studio racked up with expensive equipment, a pc running some overused (and overpriced) soft-synths, or recording yourself smashing a tin can with a stick.
As long as the sound is what you want...

which eats tons of cpu sadly

Most of us started with FL, because it is easy to Warez. Can't really denie it.
