Yeah I played DoomIII last year, didn't play HL. Doom3 was surely great looking but for some reason didn't wow me like I expected.
Black Isle created Baldur's Gate I and II, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape Torment, and Fallout 1 and 2. They were the owners of the D&D license until Interplay broke up the group and sunk BI. I suppose they milked the D&D license with a lot of their games but unlike Blizzard that was their job under interplay.
Now some of those who were disbanded have formed Obsidian Entertainment and are creating NWN 2 and Fallout has since moved to BethSoft.
I actually did play some old games a few months back but nothing quite as old as Duke Nukem . I popped in Mafia and Baldur's Gate II again after a hiatus. Both are still gems even today. I think mafia was one of last games that really blew me away.
Diablo 1 is definetely on my short list of games that blew me away during their time. Diablo II I saw as more of a makeover, as most sequels tend to be, building on the same premise. I think the problem with Diablo is the end is so predictable because the boss of the game is in the title. You know where the game will end up. However the first time I played diablo 1 I had no clue where I was going and I remember when I first saw the archmage in the bottom levels I was in awe.
I've never been much of a multi player gamer, when I do I tend to just fire up deathmatch in something like UT as I've never been much of a team player
Perhaps with seeing just about everything gaming has to offer I have become jaded by new things, hoping that something I have never seen before will come out.
