the 1950s one was pretty good for an oldie...

scared me how the UFOs flew all slow and just blasted evrything...

spielberg had better do good with this one, we're in need of a good alien invasion...

he should collaborate with some DnB artists and work up a really evil deep score for the soundtrack and sound effects

It started out as a book by Orson Wells, then was made into a radio broadcast that was meant to sound realistic - people tuned in halfway through and, people being very naive back then, thought that it was an ACTUAL broadcast.

People died because of the panic in the streets that the original radio version caused (or so the story goes, but old people have a way of exaggerating things ).

The Musical version listed here is top-class! Gotta love the sound-effects and the cheesy songs! "*ULAAAAAAAA!!!!*"

This Spielberg version should be cool.

Some advice: if you ever become a director, don't make a comic book movie because with that attitude you'll probably get shot.

There were enough liberties taken by Peter Jackson in making the trilogy, I suppose he took good ones as opposed to bad ones? Every director is paid to make a movie and interpret the movie in order to make the fans, the mainstream and the movie companies who finance these movies all happy. It's a shame your already downgrading the extremely creative mind of Speilberg with your elitist attitude about Hollywood blockbusters. He has to make something thats huge and cram it into a 2 hour movie and make it mesmerizing and fun to watch, otherwise its his ass on the line.

Some advice: If you devout your time to satisfy a nerdy bunch of elitist movie buffs, how can you call yourself original, brilliant or a worthwhile director if you are just gonna copy and paste a comic book into a film directly.

Theres a difference between coping someone's elses work and then taking your stab at making something just as good and putting it in a different light. It's called taking some chances and having balls, something you might not see as a admirable trait in directing, but is something I would like to see in all directors and their projects.

P.S. Jurassic Park owns you all!

agree.

I can't think of any better suited director than speilberg. This is his sort of film. Im pretty sure that Speilberg is a huge fan of War of the Worlds & has wanted to make this movie for years. He grew up with this stuff. He is going to be in his element. Just imagine how this film would turn out if someone like Paul W. Anderson did it(*thinks back at Alien vs. Predator & vomits*).

It is funny how our atitudes towards movies these days are alot different to how they were in the 80s. Our expectation are now extremely low & we always have a sense of We've-seen-it-all-before. But I am still hoping that WOW will be kickass. It's about time we had a destruction horror movie where the humans lose. Im sick of humans bloody winning all the time. Give the martians are go I say, let them kick our ass; Let them harvest our bodies & inject our blood into their veins. ID4 can kiss my ass. Bugger the family fun adventures; I want some serious science fiction..........

LOL @ the "ULAAAAA"!

I agree with you. My problem is I don't think that is what Spielberg does. As I said he has a tendency to take a story and change anything and everything he pleases without any regard for anyone but his own views of what it should be like. I'm talking about intricate elements of the basic story line, not a little editing here and there for the sake of cinema.

Take "The Terminal" for instance. Its based around a real guy that it actually happened to. Spielberg heard about it and decided to make a movie out of it. He approached Mehran Karimi-Nasseri, bought the rights of the story from him and made a movie that is "entirely different."

In the case of the Jurassic Park movies, the only connection Michael Crichton had in II and III was a copy of the scripts that were mailed to him later on.

Speilberg says there are martians, tripods & heaps of destruction. That close enough to the Orson Welles story for me!

....& with more digital shots than starwars 3 & a budget the same as the titanic movie; we're in for a pretty awesome ride id say

It'll be seen for the FX.

But other than that, it WILL be shit. Its guaranteed to be another one of those disaster movies that focuses on America only and doesnt care about the rest of the world. It'll then involve one person who becomes a hero and wins a girl he thinks he cant have before finding a stupid moronic weakness in the martians causing America to save the world.

If I made a film I'd have hordes of American soldiers being gunned down by a small handful of Russian conscripts. Just to be different, and get away from all this 'America saves the world AGAIN' shit in films.

FFS I'm surprised they didnt try and nuke the fucking storms in Day After Tomorrow.

hahahaha true that.

Freaken disaster movies. Im thinking that the flying cow in Twister really upset alot of people. damn that flying cow!!!

The 1950s movie got an oscar for it special effect, so you're right; the fx will play a big part in this movie. The other thing known about this movie is the scare factor. The 1930s radio version freaked people out & made some run for the hills. The 1950s movie is a classic & I remember it giving me nightmares as a child. Now this is going to be unltra-realist; which is different for speilberg - but i think it will have a great effect on the post 9/11 audience. FX & horror will make this film good; I just hope it doesnt get snowed under by crappy character development & sloppy breaveheart sentimental-yankie style scripting.

But still Martian Tripods vs. the Army, godzilla style = kickass!!

Well as clever as it is for you to say all that gibberish, why is it that everytime a movie spends good money on special effects, it cannot possibly stand alone on its script either. One has nothing to do with the other in reality, only that there are movies that have been known to do this in order to sell tickets at the door. Comparing every special effects movie with each other doesn't entail that all movies with special effects are garbage. It's like comparing all comedies with each other, and saying the story will always be stupid, cause it will only stand on its humour and that alone, when in fact some comedies have had some good stories behind their jokes.

It's clear as day that you obviously show a hate for American patriotism glossed movies, and I too share in your distaste for such movies, but thats doesn't mean your movie is going to be any better. Your trading one countries patriotism for the next, and it makes it equally as horrible to watch either.

P.S. That's your fault for watching a movie made by the Fox and the director of Indepedance Day, I could of told you "The Day After Tommorrow" was going to be shit before it was even being filmed. Maybe you should pay attention a bit before spending that money to rent or go into the theatre and watch just any movie.
