Well this mixed turned out to be a little TOO popular, it sucked up over 45 gigs of bandwidth in downloads (granted it is at 160 kps mp3) and cost me a bit of money to host this past billing period, but Iam super happy it has been so well recieved.

The internet is such an awesome way for us all to share our love of mixing!!

From the sounds of the reviews, and the lovely little description of Prog/Psy I had to d/l it. (Is the host in Cgy too? I got a nice 475kb/sec )

I've never heard another Buzzmonx track other than "Insane" which truly is one of the very best songs ever created, so I'm definitely interested in hearing this one.

Off to work now, but will post feedback later.

This is a very decent set. After only one listen, I am farily impressed. Mixing was very well done, and the track selection was pretty good.

I'll give it a few more listens over the weekend, but I'm sure this will grow on me and is a real keeper. Orignally I thought it was a bit slow paced, but as I'm listening to it while I reply, it's about the same speed/energy as the GOA/PSY/Prog sets I've done and am really happy with, so...

Thanks for sharing the set Nokturnal.

Hey any time my friend.

I know it is an oddball mix, so I am glad some people are digging it.

That's about as good a compliment as I have ever gotten!

Well let others know about it if you like, plus if you want a better quality copy, just let me know, I love sending out cd's.

=)

Darvin.

This is the good and groovy side of psytrance, nice to hear in a mix.

You asked for some critical feedback so here are some specific comments while listening here at work:

- the beginning is all smooth, sedate, nicely groovin'...
- the transition into and out of Darko is awry to my ears
- though the first FREq track changes the flow of the mix drastically from the relatively understated beats of Buzzmonx and, to a lesser extent, those of Hellion, you manage to pull this off with the right timing... throwing the Buzzmonx in earlier or padding the flow with another tune between Hellion and Suzuki Sun may have been advantageous
- FREq mixes well with FREq of course! Usually I begin mixing Spacechanger from the end of the first break (around... 7:36? or so?), not the beginning. It can make for a tighter transition - less downtime from that first big break...
- the length of some of your mixes here seem a little short (which isn't to say that none are long or that -all- mixes should be long)...
- it ends fairly nicely, though I note that more than half of the mix is Iboga material often I challenge myself to change it up, though I must admit I have a tendancy to drop a lot of Iboga as well.

I hope that is of some help! Keep in mind plenty of this is subjective and dependant on style/taste, so take it or leave it as you wish. I liked the mix... thanks for pointing it out!

Now that's some awesome critical feedback, thank you Basalisk!

I usually do mix Spacechanger from the end of the first break as well, since it comes in about 1/8 beat fast (drives me insane) but in this case I wanted the effect of the transition to be what it was. The track before it ends very full and intense then drops off suddenly, so I like to use the natural breakdown in the new track (Spacechanger) to help the transition.

As well I do try to go for a few different types of transitions in a mix, some are long, some short, some are seamless and some punch through, depending on what I think works where. I agree with you that a diversity of transition styles is good.

This mix is more mono-label (Iboga) than most of my others. I tend to mix different labels, but on this one I was after a very specific sound. I don't consciously worry about how many tracks I use from a certain label, although I do try to keep a variety in who the tracks are produced by. The run of three FREq tracks is a first for me.

I am going to return the favour and get you some feedback on your mix as well, as soon as i get a chance.

Rusty is a great friend of mine, do you know him well?

Fantastic set! Your mixing is great. My only real complaint is that I find the overall flow lacking. I just don't get a sense of a coherent stream from start to finish. But the exposure to great progressive psy more than makes up for that!

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Cobalt!

Your comment aboutlack of flow is the exact opposite I have gotten From lots of other people, which is cool as it shows just how unique we all are in the way we take in what we experience.

ALL MY MIXES ARE DOWN! Sorry everyone, but I have burned up way too much bandwidth (80 gigs!) in the last few months, and it has been costing me a fortune. We have istalled a paypal button on the homepage of Area709 ( www.area709.com ) so feel free to donate some cash to our non-profit site so that we can turn the tunes back on!! =)
