As far as production goes, Mac G5's TEND to perform better than Xeon/Opterons. They're stable (loosely based off *nix), plus there's some very powerful software available. Since most producers, movie studios, etc all use Macs, people tend to recommend them over PC's simply because that's what the "industry" uses.
