Re: Pink Floyd is brilliant

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then the one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's
sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
And shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled
lines
Hanging on in quiet desparation in the English way
The time is gone the song is over, thought I'd something more to
say
I love these guys. I think its my favorite album series ever created. Such a brilliant commentary. |
I thought about making this exact thread the other day, Orbax.
I was driving down the road that leads to my house the other day, and I got the random urge to change the radio station. I switched it at just the right time because "Time" was just starting. I started looking at the vast blue sky before me and contempleted the lyrics for a while, then I slowed down because traffic was beginning to congest. As I was sitting there slowly moving and singing with the song, it occured to me how much of a waste of time sitting in traffic is, and how it correlates with what the song is saying.
Maybe you just had to be there to witness me laughing hysterically, but the old lady on the sidewalk saw me....and she was there....and I think I scared her a little bit.
And just as I began to pull into my driveway, the second part of the song kicked in just at the right moment: "Home, home again. I like to be here when I can. When I come home cold and tired, I like to warm my bones beside the fire...." it was right on cue.
Pink Floyd = Greatest rock band. ever.
Roger Waters is a damn genius, but even before and after him, their music is absolutely brilliant.
My favorite album is "Wish You Were Here".
But yes - I believe that much of modern electronic music that we all listen to owes a lot to Pink Floyd. They were startlingly ahead of their time in creating entrancing music...or maybe that was the true beginning of trance? Or maybe that began thousands of years ago when some tribal members beat on drums just right and entranced someone while everyone was on opium during a lightning storm. Hah. Prehistoric raves. Ok, now I'm just mumbling...
