Ok, let's keep our feet on the ground for a moment.

With regards to radio (as Tuface mentions), yes you will always have compression on a radio show. Stuff recorded from the radio will have a certain clarity and loudness that you don't get if you listen direct from source.
There is always a sound engineer present when a radio show is being broadcast.

Has anyone ever noticed how good his live sets sound?
The man is an absolute genious with an EQ and understands accoustics very well so there is a lot more to Armin's sound than just one easy wonder solution.

You are entering the realm of mastering and sound engineering and anyone that thinks there is a simple quick fix solution is dreaming.

If you were however to put some compression on your demo mix or and a maximizer then you would get a more pleasing sound as long as it's done well.
But as for playing live at a venue that comes down to experience, good understanding and a good ear.

Cheers
Nem

Theres also weather and geography that can change sound. I heard radio stations stream at 96kbps to push the signal farther

at my station, the on-air personality's voice and music goes through about 3-5 compressors/processors before it hits the air
it gives it more "punch"

however, there isn't always a sound engineer present

radio stations these days are slowly but surely going the route of full automation

there are 5 radio stations being run out of my building, using only the amount of staff it takes to run one station

yes, we do employ a couple full time engineers but they work 9-5
all the settings of the equipment and processors were done when the station opened, they might need a small adjustment every now and then but for the most part everything basically runs itself

it's made to be almost idiot proof, so the on-air personality just has to come in and turn on the mic

Uhh...You have to record the set first...then run it again on winamp and the plugin and record it again

I know it's time consuming but it gives the set better quality

anyone got another link to the plugin? seems this guy hit his bandwidth limit, heh...

also, wouldnt it be less time consuming if you just used the dsp with a file writer output plugin?

Just my 2 cents!. Yes it does lot of difference. I have been convesing with Armin on his web site forum. He will now be going digital with Ableton Live, which I've been using for a while now. The FM compression you talking about, can be found on SOUND FORGE 7.0. Sometimes I'd also put a slight delay reverb on it.

Enjoy !

Haha, no kidding. Seriously I can engineer a mix pretty well now, and every commercial sound you hear uses compression. But I'm not gonna jump on the the bandwaggon and rant about bitrates and FM radio, everyone knows about signal processing

fuck i need some sleep
