Sometimes you get a little more leeway if you have home insurance with the same company too (i.e. RBC)

With the many cars I've owned, I paid no less than $300 / month (with no tickets/claims) until I was 25. I paid that much for 8 or 9 years!

When I turned 25 it changed to ~$135 / month.

Which won't help in this case, once u become a 'high risk' driver. RBC is the one who dropped me.

When I read you're post, the FIRST person I thought of was Nat but then she gave you some advise already...I wonder if your friend can go without the collision part of the insurance & just have liability...What kind of car does she have?...I know that I drove a shit box for a few years and just had liability but that was because I couldn't afford a newer car.Now I drive a better car & have it fully insured with my condo to save "some" money...I hope things work out for your friend

She lives in Brampton if that's of any help. She drives a Cavalier, I would guess a 98 or a 99.

drive a beater and drop collision, for starters.

no one gets "dropped"...by law auto insurers have to offer you basic coverage...they can deny optional coverage (like collision)

curious to know what "two tickets" means...$600/month sounds a bit high for one minor at fault and a couple of tickets (are we talking major speeding, running lights, etc?). Does she know exactly what's on her record?

Call some brokers and tell them her EXACT driving record up front and get them to call their companies. She won't find "a deal" anywhere, unfortunately, and will have to suck it up for a while. I say go with a beater and basic coverage...

Start taking the rocket.

I did that after 12 years of driving, six cars later.

Work thank God is a 9 min walk.

Reason?
Heavy foot and heavy music.
