#1 If Britain and France hadn't of threatened to join the South, Lincoln would never have made his Emancipation Proclimation. Lincoln made the war into a slavery issue so European countries couldn't aid the South. The sad truth is that the north didn't give two shits about black people either, and in fact there was mass desertion from the Union army after Lincoln said he was going to free the slaves.
#2 the civil war began after lincoln became president, not because he had any intention of making the south free their slaves- but b/c he wanted to impose yet another trade tariff to help out northern industries but which would aslo strangle southern exporters
the flag has nothing to do with slavery
