Yeah but what would that have to do with "DJing"?
Basicly get the best decks you can, a mixer and some records. Then piss about with that. The rest will happen naturally.

are you serious, or are you just messin with him? That cant possibly be right?
Armin van Buuren didnt take that long to get good did he?
nah hes not being serious. hes being sarcastic. and, if he doesnt mind me saying, a bit of an asshole too.
threadstarter: you dont need qualifications in anything to eventually get good at it. doesnt matter if (for example) you have chubby fingers and want to play the guitar. you may find it difficult at first but you will adjust to it and become used to playing with chubby fingers. and compensate for it as necessary. i mean stevie wonder plays the piano pretty well and hes blind.
the important part is you dont go thinking: 'oh man ive got chubby fingers - ill never be as a good at guitar as van halen. i never went to music tech either. oh man. ill never be a musician.'
anybody can DJ. anybody can write music. anybody can learn to write music. it is the epitome of logic and it does make complete sense if its put to you in a straightforward manner. shame theres alot of resources out there that make the theory of music much more complex than it really is. you just need to figure it out for yourself and have the patience to stick it through even when it feels like nothing is gonna come of it. i think most things are like that. it helps alot of you really love writing music or DJing though cuz then its rewarding to actually practice and the process of getting better is fun. always a good, healthy frame of mind to have.
i dont believe in natural talent. or being born gifted. people get good at things because they put the hours in and they think about what they are working towards. but. its very easy to keep slogging it out but not get anywhere cuz you lose sight of what you are trying to achieve. its a fine line. good luck with not stepping on the wrong side of it.

bit of an asshole??? didnt mean that...was just trying to have a laugh. i thought it was funny.
but anyways...the way i look at it, all you need is two things....lots of money, and the time to practice. if you have those two, you can start spinning...but try to spin on your friends decks before you make the step to buying them.

i wouldn't say it's necessary, but it definitely helps speed up the process.

The only thing you need if you want to DJ, is to be musically inclined. If youre not, you might be waiting your time - its incredibly difficult to teach yourself something that you are a complete dunce to.
For me, it took 10 mins to figure out how to b/m. Literally. Now Im just figuring out all the details to each track that I mix (volume, pitch, speed, tone) so that when I mix in and out of each track, the transitions arent too abrupt.
