i was talking about it with a friend the other day. He said it has become a real hot issue with marrying couples now. A lot of guys are breaking up with their gfs over it.

My buddy Clinty who is a Catholic Philipino... i recall us having this discussion.

To him the idea that a girl NOT assume his last name was incredibly riddiculous and it was a HUGE big deal going aginst all tradition and blah blah blah and im sorry if she was keeping her last name, then he said there was no way in hell they were ever getting married.

i remember i was playing devil' advocate in this arguement and i was having alot of fuN!

It was certainly something he felt intensely about and would never budge an inch on

These kinda examples I find are very hard to properly consider... its never so black and white... and there'll be massive discussions on the issue if its REALLY IS such a big deal...

also, i throw out there... if Jayx1 or whoever refuses to budge NO MATTER WHUT on this issue, is the girl really willing to throw it all away too (bc if the bf wont budge, thats whuts happening) Both ppl really could be seen as causing the demise of the relationship

Actually, I see it as only one way for this to work. Both have to compromise. That's why her keeping the maiden name and then hyphenate his surname is the best compromise. If neither are willing to budge...then this relationship will never last.
