also so producers can release on other labels,

darren tate may be offered a contract by Data Records so he would sign it as DT8 and then he could be offered one by serious records and sign that as Jurgen Vries as long as he doesnt sign it as Darren Tate he can produce for any label he likes.

Artists will produce under a different name for many different reasons one might just be creativity. For example look at Ferry, he has lots of projects the most famous ones being the System F and Ferry Corsten projects. With FC he records lots of vocal tracks with alot of electro and guitar inspired thing in them whereas the SF proejct is alot more trance influenced.
