good question for a thread. ive always been a fan of dance music. always listened to the cheesy dance remixes of pop songs and what not and gradually progressed from there. but my now love for trance and the many other forms of electronic music started when i first heard space girl - something for your mind. that was my first favorite trance song. also, bad boy bill and richard humpty vission's cd banging the box 2 was my shit.

well....there are numerous other tracks that i an mention, /
but most definately, hadnt i been flicking the radio that nite, (it was an underground music station in sydney , back int he days!) i wouldnt have heard about "trance" or "goa trance" as it was known then. It startled me @ first. those sweet melodies, and beat...i listened to all of the show, and they played some other tracks (i still have the TAPE iof the show even now!) - ill always cherish it!

ther have been many artists /bands that have left something special in
me....

some traks:

pvd - for an angel (the original - on the 45rpm album + the 98 one)
marmion - shoenenberg
energy 52 - cafe del mar (the original still kiks ass!)
jens - loops n tings
paragliders - baghdad
lsg - netherworld

well. i can keep on going|!
but for a full list., PLS visit my "alltime fav tracks" where i have a list of just "some" of my alltime favs.
thre are a few more i need to add!

Hehehe cool thread ...

I started off just being a red neck farm boy in New Zealand, growing up listening to AC/DC and that sort of thing, then when I went to university in the big city I became a right old ska-punker and played bass in a few bands. When I finished with that I moved to London in 1999, I was staying in this shit hole flat with a couple of my old pals from back home who were right into the Aussie and Kiwi clubbing scene down in London, they used to thrash the hard house / hard trance 24 hours a day round the house.

For the first couple of weeks I lived there, I was like 'what the fuck has happened to you guys, listening to all this lame techno, what a bunch of pussies' but secretly I was quite enjoying these new sounds around the house, then one night after we'd had a few beers in the local we went out to Fahrenhite and my mind was pretty much blown by how cool it was, I was like a total religious convert, went out and bought Trance Nation 1 and a Platipus compilation the next day and some cool cyber gear from Camden Cyberdog, that was a pretty bloody good year for trance as y'all might recall. I ended up totally more into trance than the other boys, they created a monster

*sigh* those were the days

/me weeps tears of nostalgia for 1999

I was a huge fan of "Eurostyle" by a DJ in Chicago since 1996. That music has increasingly gone to the cheese factory in the past couple of years, so I became less interested.

About 18 months ago, this same DJ released a progressive trance CD, and I was hooked. Songs like:

Pulsedriver - Take you high
Watergate - Heart of Asia
Marc Et Claude - Another Dimension

began to convert me to the trance style.
This DJ has since released 2 more Progressive Trance Cd's which I also love.

What has really reeled me in is this website. My 2 current favorite mixes are 2 livesets from here:

Armin Van Buuren Live at Club Eau 3-18-00 and
DJ Tiesto at the 2 Year Club Eau celebration 6-3-01.

I know I'm somewhat "behind the times" but Chicago radio, basically ignores this type of music (Britney Spears and Jay Z are not dance music). I rely heavilly on reviewers and the message boards on this site to try and keep up.

i first heard faithless - insomnia in like 1996, and i was amazed! i had never been driven by music like that before... but not being too bright, i didnt explore that genre any further ... then a few years later i was heavily into the music by artists like dune and such, and then sometime later i first went to a trance party and I WAS IN HEAVEN! i was finally exposed to the type of music i had been looking for ALL ALONG!!

yay for trance

It's Jean-Micel Jarre and Vangelis and such that got me into electronic music when I was 7 or 8 years old or so, loved it ever since.
But the album that really got me into trance as we know it now is Tiesto live @ Innercity. It also turned me into a Tiesto-Addict for life.
