Maybe you could care to tell me what is 'good' then. |
mate, what *you* like - thats whats good.
sure, darude recycled the same tired cliches that were neither new nor fresh when josh winx dragged them out four years prior, just as robert miles did little more than play chopsticks with the factory presets on his kurzweil k2000, which means that the chinstrokers can play holier than thou by poking fun at them... however, the commercial success of these tracks (and other 'sellout' dance tracks before them) betrays one undeniable fact - they were massively popular commercial successes because lots and lots and lots of ordinary people heard them and said 'wow, that appeals to me'.
when i write music i write it in the hopes that people will listen to it and say 'wow, that appeals to me'. the more people it appeals to, the more days or nights ive brightened, the happier i am. i cant imagine im alone in that motivation.
which brings us right back to where we started: if you like it, its good.
but never stop exploring - there's heaps more out there beyond the mainstream commercial stuff that will blow your mind once you get into it. stick around and you'll figure out what it is soon enough.

But i don't think it's far from the truth anyway. A Night Of Trance is one of Sydney's big regular trance nights. |
I hate to piss on the parade, but considering that Sublime and Progress are the only other options (they still pull more crowds than ANOT could ever imagine) I would say that the competition is far and few between. I mean you know trance in Sydney is dead, when the 'mirror man' comes on the forums and tells you that ANOT is one of Sydney's big regular trance nights. And even if it were so 'big' (recurring theme, dont we love it) do you think that he would be sooooooooooo obsessed with all the spamming on these and other boards? dont think so! Look at it this way, Ben Korbel doesn't go on itm for example and give shameless plugs to SOS every week, yet sounds is by far the biggest and best event in Sydney week in, week out!
the 'mirror man' and his enterprises (the amount of advertising, you would think its the lead up to a grand final or something) need to brainwash you the masses in order to run even at the end of the night. Ok I have officially lost what I'm saying (I really need a rest for a weeekend) but my point is, that if anot were so 'big' then why the countless plugs, million and one descriptions and exaggerations (uplifting, euphoric, brain busting, ultra cool, hands in the air experience) and most importantly 'reminders' that 'josh and friends productions' is having a night? I leave that for you to answer............................
In the meantime, am I looking forward to this Friday night as I shall be making my much anticipated appearance at ANOT. I hope to see you all there and hope to go 'fly away' at 4.30 when 'mirror man' Josh and 'bat boy' Yoshi brace the decks.
Sid
