where do I begin!?
Picking up the wrong needle is always fun. The first time I did that, I was so stunned by the instant silence that I just froze for a minute. The place was packed, everybody cheered, I put the needle back on the record and the party continued.
Another time, I wass working at a club and the place was jammed. I put on a long song and went downstairs to get a cocktail. as soon as I got my drink, I turned around to go back up to the booth and the record started skipping. The place was so crowded that I couldn't get through all the people to get back upstairs. Lucky for me that the skip just happened to cause an almost perfect loop....right on beat.
Then there was the time that it was my first night spinning at one of the biggest clubs in L.A. and not even five minutes before I was to start playing, I snagged the wire on my headphones and ripped the wires right out of them. Talk about panic! I lucked out on that one too because I lived about two bocks away from the club so I had someone run to my house and get me another set of headphones.

No. The monitors were hooked up to play what you heard on the floor...not what you were cueing up.

i've done things similar. at the first house party i was playing i was getting into my set and it was about time for me to drop gamemaster to get the crowd riled up. at this point i had the most people dancing that i'd seen all night (about 8 or so). nothing great but i wanted to keep them moving seeing as how it was my first time out. so i finally get gamemaster beatmatched and then i fade it in, cut the other track out, and it was golden. so i'm grooving to the track through my headphones cuz i'm a headphone dj and all and i sense this odd vibe so i look up and see everyone just standing around and staring at me. i take off my headphones to hear dead silence coming from the speakers. turns out i accidentally hit the crossfader to the 1 turntable when i was playing gamemaster out of 2. i hurriedly moved the crossfader to the middle but that was the end of me for the evening.
lost

Actually, what I did was just played a couple of songs that had cold endings and by then a new set of headphones arrived.

Like you always keep your headphone over both your ears? Never seen anyone spin like that, but hey what works for you.... |
I spin like that sometimes.. sometimes it just can be too loud and distorted out in the room, it's nice to have clean bass pumping in both ears to get the songs matched perfectly..
then when, I'm ready to slide the crossfader over, I of course listen to the room though, you need to know what it's sounding like.
and damn, you couldn't pick a WORSE song to screw up the mix in than the gamemaster, that's my favorite track!
