you know whats bad? when you play the same fuckin record twice in one set by accident!! at an event it wouldn't be THAT bad, b/c most of the partygoers don't know the difference between the tracks you are playing, but when you are recording a set from your TT's to your computer for other TA's, THEY'RE gonna notice you put Marco V's Simulated in there twice by accident....... FUCK!

and of course it was the last song i put in......... i meant to put in Recovered last........ dammit! oh well....... guess TA won't hear THAT set... LoL

or equally as bad, is when u play a song early in the night that the other DJs wanted to play later, and then they play it..and the crowd does notice..then the guy whos leading up looks like a complet schmo.

Cool

ive heard this one before, it wasnt by me but it was by a guy here or at technodron, i give you the story as i remember it:

i got my first gig but it was generally a hip-hop place so the mixer wasn't up to our usual standards. anyway i played a few hard house records, mixing was okay but the eq was no where near kill frequencies. the dancefloor wasnt particularly busy, but on about my fifth record i lifted the wrong needle, everybody noticed, after about 5 minutes there was only a handful of people left. not the best first gig

now thats a nasty story.

where do I begin!?

Picking up the wrong needle is always fun. The first time I did that, I was so stunned by the instant silence that I just froze for a minute. The place was packed, everybody cheered, I put the needle back on the record and the party continued.
Another time, I wass working at a club and the place was jammed. I put on a long song and went downstairs to get a cocktail. as soon as I got my drink, I turned around to go back up to the booth and the record started skipping. The place was so crowded that I couldn't get through all the people to get back upstairs. Lucky for me that the skip just happened to cause an almost perfect loop....right on beat.
Then there was the time that it was my first night spinning at one of the biggest clubs in L.A. and not even five minutes before I was to start playing, I snagged the wire on my headphones and ripped the wires right out of them. Talk about panic! I lucked out on that one too because I lived about two bocks away from the club so I had someone run to my house and get me another set of headphones.

Surely, if you were in a big club you could just use the monitors?

No. The monitors were hooked up to play what you heard on the floor...not what you were cueing up.

surely you could have just changed them over if your headphones phucked. mixing live sounds pretty dangerous to me, did u get the headphones b4 your next mix, or did u just use acapellas and backspins, etc. ??????

Smiley DJ the gig that never was

once i went to a party conviced that i was playing.. setup all me gear.. warmed up a bit..
then the promoters came and told me it was a different event..
so now it was time to pack up he gear (mixer, laptop, cd players).. my truck was parked out front,, bbuutt.. couldn't find my keys to start the car.. i loaded my gear into it.. (its sitting right out in front of the club) 1 hour goes by.. the bouncer offers to hotwire my car.. i tell him i will find them no matter what..ive searched the whole club inside out.. the boucers have with flashlights too..
2hours go by.. a bouncer is now threatening to have my car towed.. then i climb up to the big DJ booth (not the one i was setup in),, find my keys sitting behind the decks!, dunno how they got there..
but finally i could get out there..
i guess that wasn't an aweful event DURING djing.. but it was an awful event.. but hey! when it was said and done with i met nice russain girl and the promoters gave me free drinks all night

i've done things similar. at the first house party i was playing i was getting into my set and it was about time for me to drop gamemaster to get the crowd riled up. at this point i had the most people dancing that i'd seen all night (about 8 or so). nothing great but i wanted to keep them moving seeing as how it was my first time out. so i finally get gamemaster beatmatched and then i fade it in, cut the other track out, and it was golden. so i'm grooving to the track through my headphones cuz i'm a headphone dj and all and i sense this odd vibe so i look up and see everyone just standing around and staring at me. i take off my headphones to hear dead silence coming from the speakers. turns out i accidentally hit the crossfader to the 1 turntable when i was playing gamemaster out of 2. i hurriedly moved the crossfader to the middle but that was the end of me for the evening.

lost

Actually, what I did was just played a couple of songs that had cold endings and by then a new set of headphones arrived.

I spin like that sometimes.. sometimes it just can be too loud and distorted out in the room, it's nice to have clean bass pumping in both ears to get the songs matched perfectly..

then when, I'm ready to slide the crossfader over, I of course listen to the room though, you need to know what it's sounding like.

and damn, you couldn't pick a WORSE song to screw up the mix in than the gamemaster, that's my favorite track!
