There was a fake report going around that said that. Its not true. Vinyl is made out of PolyVinylChloride AKA PVC and if they stop making PVC they'll have an alternative because PVC is freakin everywhere and as a chemist I can assure you that the synthesis of PVC isn't too environmentally unfriendly. Its not anywhere near as unfriendly as some US industries. If it gets banned I'm sure we'll move the production plants offshore like we did when the ban of the manufacture of large capacitors was put in place. They make those things in Poland now I think.

Well first off i sold my tables for $120 more than i bought them for, and I'm flying to europe in about a month and can't bring all my records with me. This will allow me to take my laptop and my external hardrive anywhere- i can plug and play into virtualy any system + starting to spin on cdj's. That and the fact that vinyl will be obsolete by 2012 as vinyl production will be illegal by 2009 due to environmental laws being put into effect as of 2007...
I wish i could have kept my tt's and bought programs, but I needed money for tracktor and the bunches of digital mp3's i'm gonna start buying...
I think its time to start going digital, skills will come with practice- and i can still practice my tt skills on other systems...
anyone???
I some how think that you have been misinformed.
Don't get me wrong, I can see that you have other reasons for buying traktor so no biggies with that.
Just so you people know, there is more than one way of making vinyl. Besides, I would say that we have one or two more pressing issues that cause just a bit more alarm than perhaps vinyl might...
As a pure digital EJ, having never used TT's, I'm a bit biased in saying you've made the right move. Laptop + 2 Sound cards seems the way to go. I use Mixmeister Pro 6 and (to a lesser extent) Traktor. MP3 quality is fantastic, the harmonic mixes you get are wicked, but you do lose that hands on touch. This is made up in part by you having more time to coax the crowd with talkovers and digital effects not possible with TT's. You can preview the next track and mix it as you go along while performing the set, or you can create the whole mix an hour or two before and tweak it while playing live.
You cant teach an old dog new tricks, but I do think it would be wise for TT DJ's to keep up with new technology in this area, as I'm sure within the next couple of years new software will be developed which will surpass even the top of the range TT's.
