This one's a very good point that I've not yet learned. I've got quite a few vinyls that I've bought, played once and never touched again...

i buy what i like. except for a few momentary lapses in reasoning, like scissor sisters - comfortably numb. i swear i thought it was a pink floyd remix.

Yea, I'm getting out of this habit (or at least trying to for my pocketbook's sake). I've actually put away some records when I went into the shop last time and most of the time I ask myself will I actually ever use this tune on a regular basis. Yes, tunes still slip through that are just impulse buys, but at least I can say I'm trying.

One thing that I'm personally looking for whenever I got into a shop is stuff thats a bit different from what I normally play so i can diversify my box a bit. Not so different that it'd be a nightmare to try to mix any of it but enough that I don't (for examples sake) have to spend a whole night mixing anthemic vocal trance or something. I can change it up a bit and go some unexpected directions.

Something I like and I know the crowd would like. Style usually comes into play but not so much style as in could it fit in with the other things you usually play. Something people will want to dance to instead of listening to as background music whilst drinking. Finally something I will play for years to come.
