and besides. take a look at dj sammy. he has formal qualifications and look at the shit he produces...

You do realize you're contradicting yourself?

While there is some honor in wanting to be self taught and such, if someone has the opportunity to get training in something they like I would personaly always recommend they do so.

You say no to schools yet you think it's different when you get your answers given to you by other people on forums or by reading a tutorial. I think that's almost worst what you are doing cause it does nearly equal having things handed over to you on a platter.

I've worked with various sets of software music, graphic design etc and on some it's taken trully years to master them yet always leaving some details always cause they are annoying to master. If someone has the option of gaining sufficient knowledge through a course compared to years of trial and error .... well it's a no brainer.

But that's just me.
And for your info I've never taken a course either, because I've never really had the opportunity.

you took what i said out of context. theres a difference to learning because you want to learn and learning because you have to learn. those tuts on the net? i looked for them. i wanted to learn what i was doing wrong. all the stuff i did learn, i did it because i wanted to, in my own time, at immense personal, social and professional and financial expense to myself. and over on the production forum theres plenty of others that do this too. and they have my admiration. and i think that if anyone was gonna create something, anything - its really not particularly worthwhile if you arent gonna put 100% into it. it will show in the end product.

of course if you go and learn all that stuff in school because you *want* to do it then thats all good. but the whole casual approach to it - nah i think thats bollocks. the whole 'im doing this because if i didnt have a teacher breathing down my neck, enforcing deadlines, i probably wouldnt be arsed to learn it'. that attitude really is bollocks.

what makes anyone think that if they dont have the drive to go it alone, they will see through a course in this stuff? theres a brick wall learning curve to music production and engineering. and if you arent willing to go all in and say im sticking with this no matter what, i seriously dont think you will get anywhere anytime soon. its not like going to the gym on weekends. i already see enough people buy expensive guitars and keyboards, doddle around for a few months and not get anywhere then pack the whole thing in. and as for formal training? oh you'll benefit from learning from people who more than likely know what they are talking about but what you get out of your course is directly proportional to what you put into it.

the people who invariably learnt everything by themselves obviously stuck it out this far. and if they have achieved this much on their own imperitive they have my respect. the people that go and learn this in school and stuck it out on their own imperitive because they loved what they were learning? they have my respect too. the people who do it cuz they have to? phuck that. alot of people wouldnt take that person, their qualifications or their music seriously if they came from the dj sammy school of cowboy dance music.
