I find 'battle' setup very annoying personally!

I thaught the reason they used it verticly is so that the cart is furthurst away from where your applying pressure. I have no choice anyway i have to have it vert coz my desk is to damn small!

vertical is strictly useful in a scratching sense as it gives way for more hand room and faster access to the Start/Stop ... battle style rocks j00 :P

I have battled as a DJ but even used horizontal then.

The vertical style came about as some DJs in the late 80's had trouble performing certain tricks and the tone arm on the left deck kept on getting in the way. Others didn't have this problem but as stated it's a turntablist thing primarlily designed to assist complexed beat juggling.

Frankly speaking, there isn't anyone (that's known) in trance today that performs tricks so complexed and speed based that they would need to set the decks up in the vertical manner so it isn't really necessary, that's not to say however that if someone liked playing like this there is no reason why they shouln't be allowed to.
The need just doesn't exist that's all.

Cheers

Very nice history Nem, i didn't know that I had to put mine in battle style because i didn't have enough room at the time and just got used to it that way, i just got a new desk and it has enough room for mix now, so im gonna try to get used to that

I would put both of mine battle style because I accidently hit the tonearm sometimes when I'm beatjuggling but its good practice to have one each way.
