Well I know guys with first class (seriously few people get these maybe 1 a year out of a start of atleast 100, probebly 20 make it to the end) hons degrees in engineering (not a joke degree) who have got no job.

To get chartered now in engineering takes 5 years education (masters level) plus probebly 4 years experiance(****s keep changing it), plus fuckloads of debt. 9 years total at which point the average wage is about 30-35k I belive.

I'm sure it's a hard job and hard to get through, but compare months of learning to 9 years.

I mean taxi drivers need to do the knowlage for an arguably larger system. Obviously you guys have alot more responcibility (and I'm not comparing in a real sence only the knowlage part) and no disrespect but come on you can't complain at 30k.

In response to attacks I would say that many drivers spend all or most of the day in underground tunnels (hardly pleasent working conditions), have to show constant concentration, have to work early and lates shifts and deal with the highest housing costs in the country. The job certainly does require a lot of skill and is far harder to pass the entrance tests/training than it is to get a university degree, for instance. They are underpaid, if anything.

People in London want a European style metro system but are not willing to pay for it. London Underground is something so central to keeping London moving but is expected to run on minimal budget. Add to this that the London Underground is older than any other system in the world and so extremely complex and you have a recipe for total disaster. In reality what Londoners really get out of it is a system that is subject to issues with reliability but is constantly improving and providing an extremely good service compared to the level of fundind. This is totally down to the incredibly hard working staff who despite working in horrible conditions give their all and all they get is fucking abuse.

Dude, shut the fucking hell up, all you do is sit on your ass and whine, yea you have to be observent an shit but so the fuck what! Bus drivers taxi cab drivers and every other job like that is for dumbass people who are to lazy to get a real job, you complain about high living costs, get an actual job with actual pay and it wont be so high for you! 30k is NOT very much thats just above poverty so shut the fuck up and get a REAL job!

There is a lot of difference between an engineering course and your typical university course. There are plenty of people attending university on three year courses that could easily be condensed into a couple of months of intensive learning.

Also, have you seen how much it costs to live in London? While Scotland is a lovely country, compared to London it is extremely cheap to live in, London is so expensive that the minimum wage may soon be changed to almost £7 an hour..

Taxi drivers have the knowledge of where streets are, no lives depend on that knowledge.

Taxi drivers also don't work in tunnels all day.

I agree with you, about the difference between taxi drivers, I just ment the knowlage part. And I realise London is expensive.

All I'm saying is that when I hear that people are complaining when they have a job which pays pretty well and doesn't require a huge amount of trainning(intensive as it is) it seems a bit, you know.

Fair enough you have alot of responcibility, and the working conditions are tough but you are getting very well paid. Not just underground guys who perhaps have even more right to get paid more but above ground guys too.

I mean I've heard train drivers (above ground) complain at 35k. I just don't see the justification for more, apart from if they did strike we'd be in trouble.

But if say teachers, starting wage about 15k, degree qualified atleast plus another year of teacher trainning (I even had a Phd qualified physics teacher at high school) we'd be fucked too but they don't threaten it do they? Ok they are less likely to have some fucking loon jumb in front of their train and spatter themselfs all over it. But they do have responcibility in other forms. And get paid half as much.

Just seems a bit shitty to me. As I say I have respect for the drivers, and the job they do. But can't see the ground for complaining.

While I appreciate the work that drivers/cabbies do, I don't think you can quite compare it to getting a university degree.

Drivers/Cabbies???? Taxi drivers are not the same as train drivers, if you think they are alike you really need to pay attention more.

Less than 1 in 100 of those who apply to train as train drivers end up employed a train driver, it is far easier to get in to a university course.
