quote:
THE END OF SUBURBIA: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of The American Dream
The Oil Shock is here and way of life in the West is about to be radically transformed:

“Since World War II North Americans have invested much of their newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of space, affordability, family life and upward mobility. As the population of suburban sprawl has exploded in the past 50 years, so too the suburban way of life has become embedded in the American consciousness.

Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American Dream.

But as we enter the 21st century, serious questions are beginning to emerge about the sustainability of this way of life. With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue in this documentary.

The consequences of inaction in the face of this global crisis are enormous.
What does Oil Peak mean for North America? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of Suburbia ? Duration: 78 minutes”

I just paid $31.31 to fill up my tank. Most expensive fill up ever. Granted, I put in the good stuff in, but still; regular unleaded was $2.18/gal. Thank goodness the wife just got a new job that lets her work from home!

Or maybe it was going to happen but never came to fruition.

Too bad no one will ever gas strike here.

If you're talking about that chain mail that circulated email saying that if everyone boycotted filling up their tanks for 1 day it would alleviate the price pressure. Which of course is stupid, since the following day people would be working double-duty at the pump!

Yeah your sort of half correct.....these happened in the Uk a couple of years ago, they were called fuel protests, basically the UK government wanted to increase the tax on petrol and diesal, now you have to take into account that the UK government and most other governments in europe take 60-70% of the price of a fill of fuel for your car or truck as tax...simple as that, fuel is heavily taxed in europe....but the UK government wanted to increase the tax by another 10% or something like that....and people protested...but it wasnt a strike by the fuel suppliers.....the protesters won....and the new tax wasnt levied.........the protesters basically blocked the fuel suppliers depots,so the fuel couldnt be delivered to industry or petrol stations....it went on for a few weeks on and off.....

But its a laugh listening to you guys complaining about the price of fuel in the US.....its double the price in europe.......

^just what I was gonna say

UK Average (super unleaded) 86.9(litre) 395.1(gal)

and thats uk money so say 7.42267 USD per gal!

You whinging bitches! lol

>>>Know how we love our sources here<<<

(I don't own a car so I don't care, just affects basicly everything I buy though.... )

EDIT:
And on the plus side since most of our cost is in tax the actual price of fuel doesn't affect us so much....

Yeah fuel in the UK is really expensive....one of the most expensive in europe.....here i pay.....

Per litre (unleaded) .94 cent euro > about 65p sterliing

Per gallon 4.27 euro > about 2.95 sterling

You guys are really being screwed, its a no wonder the petrol stations just south of our border with Northern Ireland are booming and have been for years, because of the price difference people just drive across the border and fill up their tank.....come to think of it i dont think any petrol stations exist just north of our border with Northern Ireland, they all went out of business.....i wonder why...

Whingeing yanks....and to think they just took over one of the biggest petrol stations on earth(iraq)and they still complain!!.....
