Yeah i thought the word prod or proddie was well known....must be just an irish thing....its not meant in a bad way when people say it especially down south in the Republic...you usually hear it in slagging matches between friends or things like that...stuff like "you prods are all the same" or something like that...its usually just said in fun more than anything else.....

the idea of replacing one dribbling vegatable with another who is soon to join that state always seems a bit strange to me.

There pretty fuck'd though, since they cant sack a pope. Also, its going to take an awful long tiem until they get in a cardinal who will try to reform the church, because it badly needs it.

Is it normal for the "candidates" to be so damn old? Is there some minimum age requirement or something? Why not have a 45 year old start it and be the Pope for the next 40 years instead of having to change every 5 years?

They have to be under 80 years old. If that's any comfort for you hehe.

The election process follow rather strict rules actually and I think new to this year is that the aspiring popes-to-be don't have to speak latin.

Most likely he will be a "transition" pope, which means he's not expected to stay much time alive anyway, but rather give some time so they can find a better candidate.
