Well it depends where you want to live, either out in the country or in an urban town.
Stay up north and dont go to sussex county which is way north and stay out of the west west side where Iam at. Pure country. East side is ghetto so it depends where you want to be at/near.

I guess check out Union County, which is where I live. It doesn't have any of the problems that North and South Jersey have and it's about 1/2 hour from NYC.

What are the problems of North and South J? How far is Philly from NYC?

I wouldn't mind country living. I guess I'm just nervous about picking a location because I'll have a very short time period to make a decision - about 2 or 3 days to actually visit and search for locations. I'd hate to pick one that seems good and then realize 2 months later that it's a crime haven or something.

Man, I was hoping to get away from the high car insurance. I'm paying $1400 every six months right now.

CAR INSURANCE UP THE ASS!!!!

Problems with North and south is that South has Trenton and Camden=dont live there becuase your car is gonna get jacked up every 3 days. Im not saying Patterson or Jersey city are any better but Camden is beyond dangerous. Anyways I cant say i know the problems with north, all i know is your closer to New York.

here are the crimehavens
Jersey City
Trenton
Camden
Patterson
Union City
Elizabeth(not too much)
Atlantic City

If any one wishes to add to my list then be my guest.

With Patterson and Jersey City it really matters where you live. Some parts are slums but other parts are really nice. You may want to consider Hoboken, it's a really great place.

You forgot Linden and Newark :P

Also, wasn't Camden recently rated as like one of the top 3 most dangerous cities in the country? I heard about this right after I had a Model U.N. trip there for the day at Rutgers :P

Actually it was rated #1 most dangerous, I think.

^^^^^ Yes it is tru about the Camden thing.....most dangerous place to live in all these great United States....now for all the haters....Jersey is a good place to live.....you can take your NYC pay check and get a lot more for it.....now for the cities listed below WTF???? Elizabeth not so , I think you've got your cities mixed up.....first off Atlantic City is all they way down south, I get the feeling this person is looking to be closer to the city. Jersey City is not that bad, yes there are some bad places, but there are also some great places.....check out

Jersey City
Jersey City Heights
Union City
Weehawkeen
Hoboken
West New York

If your looking to be closer to Philly then you need to be in the Trenton area casue that will put you right in between the 2 cities....so go with some place like Princeton (student housing) or Princeton Junction

Definitly move to NJ, it's a good decision. Like a lot of other posters said, Hoboken is a pretty cool place to live and close to the city. Other than that, try to move to North Jersey because of its proximity to the city. There are a few dangerous places, as you can see in some other posts, but as long as you aren't too close to them you'll be fine.
