1. Played rather well

3. Remixed Southern Sun
4. Filled the figurehead void left by Oakenfold's massive decline in popularity and Sasha & Digweed's full-scale retreat from trance.

It was 2002. His effort at both production and DJing took a sharp turn downward once his name was enough to keep the hype machine going.

These two make sense. But why is he treated like a god? Still he is just a DJ. Perhaps a good one. But why even Coca Cola signed him? He isn't a Michael Jackson (scandals left beside for now) or some sport superstar who really brings some performance. Tiësto just does what hundreds of other DJs do.

tiesto's mixing sux (always has)
i think what got him to the no 1 spot in the first place is that
1- his productions and remixes used to be good
2- the huge amount of noobs getting into trance who were in love with his sets (which were much easier to find on the internet than someone like misjia helsloot's sets) just because he played good stuff, regardless the awful mixing and the fact that there are other, less popular trance djs that played better stuff...

anyway, the fact that benny benassi is #18 makes it more than obviouse that DJ MAGs list is about nothing other than popularity
and trance is (and never was) about popularity

Duh. That's why people who defend him in his current state deserve to be ridiculed.

People without experience in any given field are hopeless pawns to the power of a marketed, advertised popular figure. When people don't have background of their own to decide something on its own merits, they tend to follow what others say; it's a natural human behavior. With so many echoes of "#1", recent arrivals to electronica take it to heart without really questioning. People like having solid answers when they haven't really the evidence to back it up; it's a usual human flaw.

Cue Oakenfold-style backlash, and a TTA post saying he foretold it happening.

yeah i went to one of his gigs a few months ago, just out of curiosity (SP?)....and he didnt really rock. his mixing was very good but his programming was absolute stink ......not that i dont like the type of music he plays, but he has absolutely no sense of sequence...
then again maybe it was just a bad day for him, but even if it was im 100% positive that he's definately not better than James Holden for example which is somewhere in the 30s....and even if he is better than holden, im 100% sure the only reason he got voted for was his "Satisfaction"

No, because Tiesto-fans still keep claiming he's the BEST DJ around, and describe his actions behind the decks as something unique, legendary, extremely skillfull and absolutely impossible to repeat by any other DJ alive, while in fact it is far from all that...

As long as herds of Tiesto-followers don't stop believing and preaching that he actually IS the best DJ in the world (instead of the most popular, or your very own personal favourite), the bashing and "Tiesto-hating" will continue...

Satisfaction is definetly the reason why hes so high in this poll.

the poll is a joke.

i like his djing style and the stuff ive heard has all flowed well.

i think youll find that makes them 'Uneducated' instead of flaming them why not try to educate them?

yes i know tiesto fans are ignorant but educating has gotta be better than flaming them.
