The latest from TIME on Delay's trip to Britain and his good ol' boy Abramoff:
| quote: | New York _ “It was congress’s 2000 Memorial Day holiday, and [House Majority Whip Tom] DeLay’s staff thought the boss and two top aides deserved a respite from the arduous hours they had been putting in doing the people’s business,” TIME’s Karen Tumulty reports. They wanted to make sure DeLay’s little delegation had the finest of everything on its weeklong trip to Britain: from lodging at the Four Seasons Hotel in London, to dinners at the poshest restaurants with the most interesting people, right down to the best tickets for The Lion King—at the time one of the hottest shows playing on the West End, and one for which good seats usually meant a six-month wait. So DeLay’s congressional office turned to someone they trusted far more than any travel agent or concierge: lobbyist Jack Abramoff. “He ran all the trips,” recalls one former top DeLay aide. “You ask where the itineraries came from, who made all the travel arrangements—it all came out of Jack’s shop,” TIME reports.
Previous trips had taken DeLay and members of his staff all over the world, but none had been quite as meticulously planned as this one. Three sources who worked with Abramoff at the time say the majority whip’s office ran one of Abramoff’s assistants ragged with its constantly changing requests. Indeed, say two of those sources, the whole idea for the expensive London jaunt had originated with DeLay aides as an additional stop to a golf outing that Abramoff had proposed at Scotland’s famous St. Andrew’s course, TIME reports.
DeLay’s travel arrangements may be drawing the interest of the Justice Department. Sources tell TIME that at least one former assistant to Abramoff who was involved in setting up the 2000 trip to England and Scotland is scheduled to be deposed this week by the FBI, whose Washington field office has assigned half a dozen agents to an investigation into the dealings of Abramoff and his business associate, former DeLay spokesman Michael Scanlon...
The President’s team is increasingly frustrated by the majority leader’s inability to mount a defense more persuasive than blaming his problems on a liberal conspiracy. DeLay, says one senior Administration official, “is handling this like an idiot,” TIME reports.

Yikes, "handling this like an idiot?" Damn.

I can name many democrats with huge tract records. I already put up the tract record on Reid. This guy could be the most corrupt politician in congress. He is actually passing legistlation for his families direct benefit. Big difference there from Delay.
Barbara Boxer hired her son making a pretty hefty sum, then she recognized a tribe in California under a promise that, that tribe wouldn't build a casino. That tribe broke that promise and then payed of her son a huge amount of money for "consulting rendered".
The Reid and Boxer stories are true they are not accusations, its just you can't put offenses on these.
Nancy Pelosi WAS JUST FINED for her part in illegal contributions for other democrat candidates in an attempt to get them to put her as the next party leader. That means she was already PROVEN GUILTY.
Then you get to the big kahoona. Hillary Rodham Clinton. First of all take a look back at the scandals (there are loads of them) involving her and her brother way back when. Now members of her staff are either already in jail or awaiting trial for bad campaign practices.
So don't go after Delay for accusations against him, when your guys have already been PROVEN as corrupt. Your politicians and great thinkers have even admitted many times that the accusations against Delay are not in any way shape or form unique to him, and that it isn't about the truth of the charges, but the gravity of, the man accused, and the fact that Delay is a weiner anyway. These are summations of the arguments from following believed sources except more highly bloated to make those arguments seem less retarded. This was the argument in 2 articles from which reside in either NYTs, Washington Post, or the Boston Globe. Could be a combination of 2 newspapers. This was also mentioned by a guest on Harball. And I know I have heard it from at least 2 more shows.
The fact is that you Democrats have shut down the House Ethics Committee. Why, I thought you guys were going to nail Delay where it hurts? The truth is that you guys shut it down because you don't want Delay to get exonerated on bogus charges, and you don't a few other smaller Democrat politicians to be slapped with pending fines for their unethical behavior. We the Republicans want the House Ethics Committee back open because we are confident that our guys will be exonerated and yours will get the smackdown.

How so? One does it to benefit his family, another does it in nearly the exact same manner. Explain.
| quote: | Barbara Boxer hired her son making a pretty hefty sum, then she recognized a tribe in California under a promise that, that tribe wouldn't build a casino. That tribe broke that promise and then payed of her son a huge amount of money for "consulting rendered".
The Reid and Boxer stories are true they are not accusations, its just you can't put offenses on these. |
And I don't dispute them, which is why I said the charge against Delay's family being paid was the weakest charge against him.
So why are you continuing to bring this up?
| quote: | | Nancy Pelosi WAS JUST FINED for her part in illegal contributions for other democrat candidates in an attempt to get them to put her as the next party leader. That means she was already PROVEN GUILTY. |
True again. One charge, one fine, one woman.
Yet you still have not brought about a rap sheet that demonstrates the number of charges and admonishments of ONE PERSON in Congress on either side that comes remotely close to Delay.
Still waiting, sir.
| quote: | | Then you get to the big kahoona. Hillary Rodham Clinton. First of all take a look back at the scandals (there are loads of them) involving her and her brother way back when. Now members of her staff are either already in jail or awaiting trial for bad campaign practices. |
Honestly I don't follow Hillary around much, nor do I really like her and would most likely vote for someone else if she decided to run.
Are you referring to Whitewater, by chance, because those charges were dropped. If not, could you cite your sources on her?
| quote: | | So don't go after Delay for accusations against him, when your guys have already been PROVEN as corrupt. |
Umm, Delay was PROVEN corrupt 3 different times by the House Ethics Committee prior to him taking out the 3 Republicans that joined the rebuke against his actions and putting in 3 of his own personal donors, as well as prior to the House GOP changing the rules on how the House Ethics Committee decides to investigate each and every case (majority vote now).
And the charges involving Abramoff and his TRMPAC involvement stinks to high heaven, but again we'll wait until those charges come to fruition. But when you have people like Santorum, Shays, and other prominent Republicans beginning to distance themselves from Delay, there is definite rumble brewing about him:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...-2005Apr10.html
What we already do know of these cases involving Abramoff and his TRMPAC is what we judge him by, and it does not look good for the man whatsoever.
| quote: | | Your politicians and great thinkers have even admitted many times that the accusations against Delay are not in any way shape or form unique to him, and that it isn't about the truth of the charges, but the gravity of, the man accused, and the fact that Delay is a weiner anyway. |
Another Faux News "Democratic" strategist, by chance?
No, the individual charges against him aren't anything knew - it's the fucking number of charges against him that's so damn unbelievable.
And you do have to throw in the fact that he is by far the smuggest fuck on the block too, which REALLY doesn't help his case out in any way. As I quoted a Bush official previously, Delay is "handling this like an idiot."
Enough said.
| quote: | | These are summations of the arguments from following believed sources except more highly bloated to make those arguments seem less retarded. Ahh, yes, more uncited sources that we cannot examine ourselves. Thanks a gob.
| quote: | | The fact is that you Democrats have shut down the House Ethics Committee. Why, I thought you guys were going to nail Delay where it hurts? If you ******s want the fucking Ethics Committee back open - then why the fuck did you change the fucking rules on how the Ethics Committee effictively governs each and every case presented? You need a majority vote by the members, which will never happen considering 3 new members whom are a part of Delay's TRMPAC fiasco are there and will NEVER investigate Delay himself.
Give me a fucking break, will you? Your baseless accusations on the Democrats are tedious as hell. YOU GOP FUCKS changed the rules on the Ethics Committee, NOT the Democrats, numbnuts. To state that it's the Democrats fault is laughable at best.
And it's more than just the Ethics Committee investigating Delay, BTW, just in case you weren't aware.

Because we have a corrupt fuck in one of the highest positions in this country who has a propensity for being a complete pompous jackass to boot.
Neither characteristic sits well with the Dems. as well as with a number of Repubs. for that matter.
| quote: | | IMO, character assasination after losing elections for eight frikken years gives oppurtunity to the obstructionist agenda. |
So just handwave away that big fat rap sheet on this guy and resort back to the "obstructionist" name calling without addressing my refutation on your label.
Go figure.
| quote: | | it's the liberals that are responsible for it this time and it is slowing down government to a crawl. |
We haven't slowed anything down, what the hell are you talking about? You seen how many of Bush's confirmations have gone through? You seen how many bills have already gone through?
Tell me something, who the hell is slowing down the government here? You had our fucking GOP House and Senate call in emergency sessions UNDER THE DIRECT GUIDANCE of this particular corrupt jerk to pass a bullshit unconstitutional bill for 1 vegetative-state individual that violated a handful of laws, not to mention it trampled ALL over State's rights which I seem to remember you Republicans fight to the death over, and THEN turn around and call out both Republican and Democratically elected judges as "activist" who did nothing but follow the Constitution and use their rational minds, while WHORING yourselves all over the damn media in the process, asking for IMPEACHMENT of judges and justifying violence and aggression against them.
Tell me again, who the hell exactly is slowing down our government business again?
| quote: | | does that mean success? that should make any citizen interested in progress of any kind mad as hell. i think the Donkey party will pay in spades...again and again. how else does the Senate come to the "Nuclear" option as an option? |
You want to talk about the nuclear option, then come join the discussion in a previous thread posted on it:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...ht=nuclear+reid
Then kindly explain to me the philosophical difference between how Republicans successfully OBSTRUCTED 60 of Clinton's judicial nominees, INCLUDING Frist's unsuccessful attempt at a filibuster himself, versus today's Democrats "obstructing" only 10 of Bush's appointments. As I said, you Conservatives invented the word "obstruction" so spare us the continual finger-pointing.
And you also seemed to overlook the rationale as to why Democrats are blocking these extremist judges. Why?
Added in Edit: Had to take out some profanity here and there. Crappy morning at the office, sorry.

There's a lot of speculation with what's going on with Earle's grand jury right now and a potential indictment of Delay himself later this year. It's been reported for some time below the mainstream press, but it seems the focus on Delay was heightened by his prominent role in the Terry Schiavo case.

To be sure, the Rahm Emanuel & the DCCC's angle for midterm elections is based largely on reform, hinting greatly at Delay's troubles. No doubt there are corrupt Democratic politicians as well, but a lot of the attention on Delay is likely linked to his leadership position. The alterations made to the ethics committee, which made it possible to block investigation with party-line votes and the effects of TRMPAC in terms of U.S. Congressional races. The "nuclear option" is an entirely different issue, where I don't see a reason for it, considering 95% of judicial nominees have been approved.

Oopsies! Dang credit card. Hey, just because he "borrowed" Abramoff's credit card doesn't mean he knows the guy, right? Doesn't mean he likes the guy, right? Folks? Hello?
| quote: | The airfare to London and Scotland in 2000 for then-House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) was charged to an American Express card issued to Jack Abramoff, a Washington lobbyist at the center of a federal criminal and tax probe, according to two sources who know Abramoff's credit card account number and to a copy of a travel invoice displaying that number.
DeLay's expenses during the same trip for food, phone calls and other items at a golf course hotel in Scotland were billed to a different credit card also used on the trip by a second registered Washington lobbyist, Edwin A. Buckham, according to receipts documenting that portion of the trip. |
Well pashaw, doesn't mean it's against House Ethics Rules, does it guys? And Delay could have STILL claimed idiocy, err, innocence, right?
| quote: | House ethics rules bar lawmakers from accepting travel and related expenses from registered lobbyists. DeLay, who is now House majority leader, has said that his expenses on this trip were paid by a nonprofit organization and that the financial arrangements for it were proper. He has also said he had no way of knowing that any lobbyist might have financially supported the trip, either directly or through reimbursements to the nonprofit organization.
The documents obtained by The Washington Post, including receipts for his hotel stays in Scotland and London and billings for his golfing during the trip at the famed St. Andrews course in Scotland, substantiate for the first time that some of DeLay's expenses on the trip were billed to charge cards used by the two lobbyists. The invoice for DeLay's plane fare lists the name of what was then Abramoff's lobbying firm, Preston Gates & Ellis.

Uhh, err, umm, hey - my KC Chiefs are finally getting some defense this year! The 15th pick from the draft, that guy from Texas, Derrick Johnson is quick as hell!
And, oh, how 'bout the weather lately? Seems like a little cold spell around the central states here just won't go away. Umm, anything else to talk about?
