Ok, most people talking about Macs being better for multmedia are full of it (they can do the same stuff, it is all about the programs you can run and the fact that in general OS X is a lot nicer to use then XP/2000). But this comment above is by for the most retarded thing I have read on TA in a long time. While I guess you could somehow find a way to put an MS OS onto an Apple computer, you would be limited as to what you could do with it, here are some possibilities:
Paper weight
Coaster (best for laptop)
Footrest (best for desktop)
Hmmm can't think of any others at the moment but I am sure there are a few more, maybe you can think of one?
Seriously though, Apple makes some good computers and great software. I think their laptops are some of the best, up their with IBM ThinkPads. However I find their desktops are a little overpriced (except maybe iMac/eMac/Mac Mini) but you can't really change that. Basically you should choose something you will be comfortable and happy with. If you hate using a mac, then getting a powerbook because the other big names have one is not a good idea. If you enjoy using them or you are open to new things I would bet you will be happy with a mac.
Regarding stability, you can make a computer with XP stable but I think it is just easier to keep OS X stable.
