in print and in policy, you are definitely right. and i agree that everyone should have equal opportunity for such positions... but in practice (behind closed doors more than in public), it's a reality. how many presidents are there that grew up in the ghetto, or scraped through highschool in single parent homes holding two jobs, or went to Juvie for auto theft...??

All the young children had the obligation to go there. Embrigadement belonged to the standard of the totalitarian modes.

well i'm not saying that it isn't more likely...i'm just saying that this dude made it to cardinal for some reason...and he was obviously thought to be good enough by his piers to be elected pope...and i'm sure they were well aware of his past when they selected him...

true enough. and i hate to jump on the popular-politics scaremongering bandwagon without knowing all of the fine details that the media and the public never gain knowledge of. (i usually don't judge so quickly)... but i still think that a pope from South America or even from Africa would have served the world much better than one who will likely set back any progression the last pope achieved.

Some comedians take their work seriously. A joke this big needs to be nurtured. I dont think they will let the cat out of the bag for another few hundred years.

....man I wish i would be still around for the punchline, it'll be freaken halarious.

Is it just me, or does he look like a cartoon "evil twin" version of the old pope? Zombie John Paul II?

The Catholic Church is a business. That's my whole problem with Catholicism. It's not about God, it's about money and power. People don't go to Church because they want to, they go because they feel obligated or for tradition. Over the past many centuries the Catholic Church has performed many abominations, casting a poor light on Christianity as a whole. I believe there are many Catholics that are good Christians, but the overall message is corrupted by the Church. Indulgences, the Crusades, etc, etc...

In Matthew, Jesus states that you cannot serve both money and God. I'm not trying to judge, by any means, but it seems like the Catholic Church is trying to straddle the fence on this one. The pope is a man, just like any other. Why is he so revered? Where does the bible say there should be a pope, or that one man should be considered higher than any others? Many of the policies of the Vatican aren't backed one iota by the Bible. I just don't get it.

agreed, and i am aware of that. but becoming a pope requires adherence to strict guidelines and certain criteria to be met with regards to background. there were many other worthy candidates (both progressive and conservative) that would have fit the bill very well - doesn't it seem logical that membership in such an organisation should disqualify a person regardless of how enthusiastic or not that they were?

You sir are a dumbass

Thet's one good piece of a bullshit you're saying. Many people discover faith being an adult after a period of a rebel. They go to church because they feel the need to do this, not because somebody asked them or a tradition tells so.

Jesus told st. Peter to be the next leader after him and later there will be next one, and the next one until Jesus returns to judge the living and the dead.
