saucony jazzes are the only way to roll. I hike in them too. Sturdy damn shoes and comfortable.

Dunno about the new "classic" AC ones, but theyd probably do fairly well. Probably wouldnt hold up as long, however.

Your mothers friends are right. I frequently do 10k, 20k runs and I'm working up to Marathon within the next year hopefully. I run in:
New Balance.. I just have good socks, good shoes

Yes buy running socks.. although they're around 14-20 a pair they can make a huge difference. As far as clothing I use underarmour running wear.

Eat before run;

day before, lots of pasta and lots of water, with a dose of vitamens
day of lots of gatorade, and a boul of fruit
day after, steak and potatoes

tada

what new balance's do you run in? when they answered my mom they said anything around 2k-8k i could go w/ new balance 700's & up. i was looking at the 1050's and they are moderatly priced.

also, so many shoe companies push their sole inserts on you. i'm guessing its their mark up product, but i've been running with stock insoles my whole life. any experience w/ those?

btw, orbax. thats what i've been running in. they are decent, but are more for flat foot runners and the shoe really doesn't morph to the foot the way the higher end shoes do. not to sound picky, but i am worried about my lower back & knees when it comes to foot impact

hehe yeah. I just dont have the cash to drop 70+ every 3 months. During my heavy months I typically run around 10miles a day and these last for half a year of that. All the runners tell you to buy new shoes every few months and what not too...

works for me I have some new balance trail runners but they just weigh too much for a 12 mile mountain run hehe. 1 ounce = a pound every 8 steps. Fug all that!

So yeah, guess Im too old for all this new shoe business

Your mother runs marathons.

lol, so do i. i can't even imagine running in them. i'm pretty sure if i jumped in a pool with them on i would sink with no hopes of coming up (as close to 'cement shoes' that my dad use to talk about in the old days )

Adidas do it for me.. I have been running since I was fifteen and they still have yet to fail me. But I run on trails rather then sidewalks and whatnot. That has a lot to do with it.
