Well at least you have admitted that professionals DO sometimes slow down the tempo in the middle of tracks!!

Its a start....

Ah, what an excellent display of rejecting creativity and originality!! You tit.

Airwave - 'Last Flight To Gaia' changes speed right down to 80bpm or something in the breakdown and sounds awesome, I've got a lot of other tracks that pull it off effectively as well.

Just because it's not done very often and is difficult to do well doesn't mean you can't do it! I don't think it's dire on this track, works better than most but I agree it's not perfect... what you could do (if you weren't so busy sucking cock) is just let him know you didn't think it works very well in THIS track and why, so that hopefully if he decides to try it again he can put a similar method to better use, thus quite possibly resulting in a better tune.

ANYWAY... on the subject of the tune in hand, got some cool ideas in it (I don't know the original I'm afraid), the vocal's a little bit loud and it could do with more percussion all round I think, but I tend to prefer things with a more driving feel which I think the kick you've used feels like it should have.

Nice sounds in the break, I agree it'd be nice if the pads were a bit stronger.

Is this the full version? I'd be interested to hear the track kick in again after the breakdown/slow down bit... unless it's just designed to go on the end of a set or something?

Well said my friend!!
I post my stuff on here and hopefully get some constructive criticism and help so I can improve - as you have provided (thanx), and hopefully get to the stage where I am listening to all you experienced producers and getting somewhere near a finished track - how else am i supposed to get better.

Anyway, the tempo thing was something I wanted to try, and introduce some ambience into a harder trance track, I know that it IS done, although I now know that in my case it isnt done too well - somehting I can maybe work on. In regards to your other comments -

I have had to pack away all my monitors as I am moving home soon, so am mastering everything on headphones so have NO idea how things are sounding to you guys. The pads sound quite loud to me, will have to wait to get out my monitors again to really tell!

In regards to my percussion, Im not very good creating my own, but its something I definatley need to work on (and I will!)

It WAS the end of the track - but again ,listening to your comments I agree that it needs to get back to where it was at the beginning to be more DJ friendly - but at my stage of producing getting it pressed for a DJ is way off in the distance!!

Overall, thanks for the comments Stu - they are the sort of comments I need if im ever to get better.

No problem, happy to help

If you're finding percussion difficult, try using 1 or 2 relatively simple loop samples to pad out the sound a bit - to make them more your own, break them up into individual sounds and move them round a bit, but keep the same sounds in the loop as they obviously work well together. when you've got a better idea of how the sounds should work together you'll find it easier to create your own.

If your tracks aren't likely to be played by other DJs then how about keeping the arrangement of that track as it is and use it as an outro track for your own sets (if you DJ)? Excellent way to give a bit of originality to what you do.

I'd also suggest doing the most you can to get a track sounding good before you ask too many others to listen (like wait until you have access to your monitors again and mix it down) because you don't want people just telling you what you knew yourself (a certain sound not being loud enough or whatever) and also people will be reluctant to give feedback on a track they've already heard and given feedback on, even if you do say that it's been updated.

Just a couple of thoughts.
