Am i right in saying also messing with the LFO also makes it rise and drop?

depends on what you use on the LFO. some LFOs are fairly limited by most allow you to vary the oscillator tuning and the filter cutoff over time. some LFOs on some synths like the virus allow you to automate panning, resonance and oscillator pulse width using the LFO.

but yea you can run some white noise through one of the oscillators and sweep it slowly by setting the LFO rate fairly slow and modulating the osc tuning. that will make it pitch up and down. on my virus i can set it to oscillate along many different waveforms - not just sine. although some basic LFO's like vanguards only allow you to modulate along a sine wave.

you can filter sweep in and out on the LFO too. its more precise and you dont need to do perfect automation takes or fiddle in graphs and stuff. you can also automate certain aspects of the synth (such as the filter cutoff) far faster than is humanly possible by setting the LFO speed really fast - like 1/32 or 1/64

It just seems to be drifting and not holding tight to the beat. Any ideas? Using Vanguard BTW.

Vanguard, as far as I know, doesn't have tempo syncable LFOs. I was talking about albino. Also, IMO, it's not the best synth to make noise with. Try Synth1. You'll get better results. And it's free.

Ok, loaded up Synth 1, and had a look at the white noise, in particular the 'wind' sound - but have no idea how to manipulate the sound etc (too many dials and knobs!!) Im only just learning how to program synths, so any pointers on what I should be looking at/ changing to get the best white noise wooshy effects?
