so... the first thing that comes to your mind when you're thinking about buying an mp3 player is the hospital? wtf.. you party pretty hard don't you b?

got an iPod Mini and it's solid. 4GB is kinda small if you like using stationripper you'll fill it up in a week. flash drives GB tiny and lack nice-to-have functionality the iPod offers.

if you belong to a college/university you can get a "personalized" ipod for 225CDN, mine was fedex'ed in 3 days from china.

I have an iRiver Ihp 120, a 20 gig driver lasts from 10 to 15 hours non stop.

very useful to transfer files too as it is usb2.

Plus you can encode to mp3 on the fly from an line in or optical in source.

firewire is 400 mbps, USB2 is 480 mbps, thats on paper.

In real life I wouldn't be able to tell you because I only have USB2 devices and they're blzing fast.

firewire compared to usb2.0 is mostly like seconds

i have my backup hdd on USB 2.0 and it will transfer 4gb in about 3 min or so. depends on how much cpu i have in use.

really the initial load of music will take some time, but that is gaurenteed. then you will just have short bursts of music loaded on as you see fit to put them on your device.

most flash devices will fill up quite fast, then u are stuck with flash cards and they are on usb 2.0 on seperate readers you have to purchase.

Some do accept flash memory cards, but those can cost as much as the player itself! Also, transferring MP3s to the player and memory card may be slow and bothersome, if you have to reload them everytime you want something different.

depending on size, can take very little time. i load up tracks while i put my work clothes on and by the time im dressed, its ready to go.

Hey, you never know when you'll end up in a hospital. And once you regain consciousness from the surgery, you feel all the pain during recovery. You'll feel really tired and sleepy the first couple of days, and when you're able to walk, you'll be EXTREMELY bored there. Sure, they got TV, but who wants to watch TV all day and night. Plus there's no radio, no internet access, can't use your cell phone, crappy food, and you're hooked up to the IV bags and have to drag around that damn IV pole with the new IV pumps while wearing just a hospital gown with your ass showing! (Try fitting the pole into the toilet stall with you. It just won't fit! Oh, don't forget the drain thingy they insert into you and clip onto the gown.)

The only thing that would make me feel better is some trance tunes!

mp3 > cd/mp3 any day.

Whether its an ipod, iriver, digitaljukebox, make sure its over 5 gigs and its all good. I got a 15 gig jukebox and it dominates.

i got a 256 meg iriver. its alright, can hold enough for me since i change my favourites constantly. xfers pretty quick, and the screen is dope. has a line, only mono recording though but stlil dope to grab a random set or something. has some radio stuff too, don't use that though so dunno if its good or not.

only bad hting is that its kind of an awkward shape to have in your pocket. it does have a armband thats dope for running/working out though.

battery life is pretty dec, throw some rechargables in there and your set for ~25 hours (?).

8/10

tempted by that ipod shuffle, its fairly cheap and looks a lot more ergonomical for pocket usage.

I am on my second ipod and I love it. You really can't go wrong with the ipod. I personally like to have a lot of space on my ipod and I wouldn't go less than 20gb, it's just so nice to listen to whatever you are in the mood for. I can fill mine up pretty fast with live sets and cds.

I fully recomend the ipod! I have never been so impressed with a product of any kind, it's really that good.

Drop the money its well worth it.
