That IS true - if you can anticipate the beat and know when to change it up - it can be quite effective.....(I have been known to give a pretty good light show or two) but that comes expressly through knowing your timing....just like when you are dancing....and I am pretty damn good at that too.....4,8,16,32,64,128.....

having good arm co-ordination/strength is also key - after awhile the biceps ache

If I'm on e, it's amusing for a couple of minutes, if the person is good. The lights leave streakers of motion, and it just looks cool. It just feels good because it's with the beat of the music.

And thats the hardest part!

Anyone can whip around objects at high speed! But its actually going WITH the music that makes it good.

another trick is to kinda look past/through the person giving the show - squint the eyes a little (like a stone-haze style) - the trails are more fluid/blurred that way. I found that out when I used to dance with them - I could trip myself out that way!!!

getting the beat is easy. If you've heard enough of the music the change of bars and phrases [4 and 32 beats respectively] become subconscious. The hardest part about glowsticking LEDing, is being able to match the transfers of one pattern to another so it looks smoothe.

Dude, you could have PMed me to tell me that instead of posting for all the world to see!!! LOL!!! Yeah I'm a total novice but really trying to learn...all I've got is the figure 8 but I love just holding the sticks and using them with my dance moves which have NOTHING to do with shows...I honestly like seeing the colours just move around in the darkness...<------SO wasted!

you'd think so.....we obviously love this music so we should be able to anticipate when a song is about to break or bridge.....but some people I swear to GOD they are hearing a waltz or something 123, 123, 123, 123, 12345678...

transitioning is just as important if not more so - continuity is 3/4 of the experience of a good light show.....then there are the colour combos............

But not being able to anticipate is just a symptom of being inexperienced. Being able to predict the changes in the music is like the DJing skill of beatmatching. Tricky to learn, but once you do, it become one of the most basic skills of glowsticking.

I used to do the colour combo this as well, but once I picked up LEDs, I gave up on trying to match them. My LEDs were the 'strobing' type with left a ribbon of green-->red-->blue, so matching was pointless.

It also doesn't help that most of the glowsticks at clubs these days are all sub-standard and fade too quickly for colour combos to work.

there is much truth in that statement - I agree (glowstickers) do have a bad rep these days - at home with your friends or at a cottage of something - this is a better venue now-a-days.....full on GLOWSTICK torrent without fear of hitting anyone....SWEET!

True which is why I buy my battery-powered ones at Wal-Mart for $4 a piece...but the colours are so strong!!!
