agree with begic. without the class of some of the bigger nations we\'re never going to get the interest from the public, and without the money that the interest from the public brings, we\'re never going to get the class.

having said that, paulie obv knows a lot more about the domestic side of things, and i hope youre right mate. would love to be able to watch good quality home-grown talent (now that fox has raped me and taken english premier league away from me)

What you will find is the local league is only a stepping stone. Give it a cpl years, with strong support and then watch it explode into Asia. We cant expect teh lofty heights that the europeans set, but with qualification through asia now and the very distinct possiblity of club championships throughtout Asia, guaranteeing huge $$$ through TV rights, the national league has never looked brighter. Teams have been built from scratch. There are no allegiances. Soccer public support this, as i can tell you now Football is ready to go places.

But that was just a dream, That was just a dream, But that was just a dream, Try, cry, why try? That was just a dream ,Just a dream, just a dream, Dream

i dont dislike soccer at all.. it was a comment which was meant to irritate and succeeded..

soccer is a very very very skillful game.. i support australia in their efforts very much so... i do like premier league football too and do casually follow Spurs from the days of Sheringham and Klinnsmann.

i think its a shame that australian soccer has become as big of a joke as it has been previously.. and i hope it builds itself back up.

i dont like in soccer how some of the players just dive and fake and seriously (in an uneducated description here) act like fairies.. and also the crowds and fukn rioters and shit....

the fans dont realise that they are turning alot of people away from Soccer becomming a big thing here in australia.

quite the optimist I must say, I wish I could share the same view, but I really cant see it happening.

Look at this way, Sydney FC will never be Liverpool FC and as we know, the ultimate dream of any talent coming through the Australian ranks is to play on the world stage and that world stage, as much as I hate to say this, does not involve Australia. As long as our top players continue to base themselves overseas, football in this country will never reach the level the code enjoys throughout the rest of the world. For this reason Aussie Rules and Rugby League will continue dominate the Australian sporting market, no matter how global Football is.

Thumbs up

Paulie, i often don't agree with what you have to say, but i have to say that i wholeheartedly agree with you on this topic.

I really hope that they can make it work this time! "Soccer" (or Football as it's righfully known all over the world) has the highest participation of any sport in Australia at grassroots level, so it's obvious that the potential is there. It just needs to be marketed properly and people need to get out there and support their team! I definitely think it is a wise move to have one team per city, because these old NSL clubs base on ethnic backgrounds are a recipe for trouble.

I know i'm going to be at the first home game for Sydney FC.

i think we'll have everyone covered agst Liverpool, from Kewell to Milan Baros.. pretty confident about this one but Sunday's game agst Juve is going to be a tough one !

On the topic of the A league .. i reckon itll be a success since i think theres one Victorian team and they'll get a lot of support. I remember going to the Hellas games with all ma greek mates, pretty cool shit! even the time when they played at Telstra Dome agst Melbourne Nights ..

can't believe id actually say this but good luck to Liverpool. Reminds me of the undergo status the Bulldogs enjoyed in 1998 when we came back from 18-2 down with 11 minutes left to snatch vicotry in the major semi-final over Parramatta!
