Saw this movie a few months ago courtesy of a leaked acedemy screener.  Have to agree with the others - Hotel Rwanda is simply one of the best films of 2004. Don Cheadle delivers an oscar calibre performance in a well written film set to the backdrop of the genocide in Rwanada-Burundi. A topical film which strikes close to heart, is well researched and suprisingly understated considering it chronicals some of the darkest times in recent history. The director uses characters and situations instead of exploiting the viewer with grisly images of the genocide. Offering the audience a story of hope and humanity in the face of the unimaginable horrors of ethnic cleansing.
A film that had to be made. A film with a message that needs to be heard. Needs to be seen, to be understood so it will never be allowed to happen again. Hotel Rwanda is essential viewing for those who claim to watch good cinema.
Hell even if you only watch pop corn flicks - do yourself a favor and watch both "Hotel Rwanda" and "The Assasination of President Nixon". You'll be happy you did.
PS. I saw "Crash" just a few days ago...Don Cheadle barely has any role in it. Yes, it's an interesting film but it's not terribly original or substantive for that matter. The heroic potrayl of Paul Rusesabagina in "Hotel Rwanda" is undoubtedly Cheadles finest performance to date.
