well you don't have to be a catholic or a christian to have a sense of what is right and what's wrong on important stuff...

maybe people will disagree on the death penalty or something...but that's not really important...

morality is doing the right thing even when its hard, falls under honor, obligation, and codes of ethics.

Im not into relativism, where there is a different code for different peoples and stuff. Dont steal eachother shit etc...

basically, its a societal contract. Morality isnt hard, its the avoiding the "but i want to do it anyway" syndrome.

Religion, as far as morality goes, is just some codes written down that you should follow. The main purpose of religion, as least for me, is establishing a union and a communion with God.

I have had to many talks with people to say that "some people just dont know what 'right' is" is a legitimate argument.

ive always told myself that it doesnt matter what religion the person is, but to be honest religion is a really important thing, if i was an athiest then i wouldnt give a damn what my partner was.

as a christian i just dont see how marrying a jew, muslim or hindu would work. i dont think id have a problem marrying an atheist though.
im an anglican and i dont see anything wrong with marrying say a prodestant or catholic coz we still believe in the same things, its just minor details that are different.

im just going to teach my kids, morality, ethics, honor. Ill not pressure them with a religion and when they are 16 or so, id have a conversation with the family and what not, give them some books, etc...

let them make their own decisions.

I made mine and it was infintely more impacting on me then just having the same religion as my parents.

Also, with most religions, again, smart people use it as a connection to their God/s. They deal a little bit with philosophy, but things like Zen and buddhism can be mixed with any religion, etc...

basically, smart people dont need to worry about how to get along, cuz yeah...God wouldnt want you to be a bastard about it.

yeah i get what you are saying but religion is something someone has to grow up with.
its good that you will let them make a choice instead of impossing your beliefs on them but you cant let them grow up not believing in anything. religion is a hard to grasp concept IMO and needs to introduced at a very young age to avoid rejection.

Thats a scary thought lol. A lot of people get introduced to religion at older ages, and convert etc...

I just think that if someone is given the appropriate tools of wonder, awe, connectedness, honor, and a solid basis in the areas of philosophy, etc....


If the child makes a well made, logical, reasonable, thought out decision on how he/she really interprets the world, Im not gonna chance that all by telling him when hes young there is a God that will send him to Hell if he doesnt listen.

I always ask them to come back, and I read their pamphlets for a week and just say yea..so this this this this this and this dont make sense, explain, and they never can

I am a Christian and so is my G.F. I think that you need to have the same set of core beliefs or it won't work because you will just fight about that as well. My kids will be brought up as Christians but I'm not forcing it on them, if they want embrace it then fine.
