I don't see why you would want to do that because the cart wouldn't track any better, it would sound horrible, and the stylus and your records would wear out extremely fast. But yes, you can do it.

They do that at all the big parties in the Netherlands!! And you won't get 20.000 or more people dancing with a horrible sound

On a soundsystem at a 20 000+ people party you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a horrible 10th generation copy on Type 1 tape and DVD Audio Discs - so you can do stunts like that. And the reason why they run the needles beyond specifications is just because nobody bothers to suspend the decks properly and shield them from vibrations. Also most DJs at parties clip the mixer/soundsystem anyway so the sound quality degradation from the needle doesn't really make that much of a difference. You can be using Stanton 500 AL and it would sound just as good (or should I say just as bad).

And I would like to add that the typical dance club can be packed with hundreds - if not thousands - of guests! And the typical dance-club sound system tends to be loud but crappy-sounding PA amps and speakers! And the dance clubs/halls themselves have too many echoing resonances, to boot! No wonder why you won't hear much of a difference between a REALLY crappy Stanton cartridge and a REALLY great Ortofon cartridge! Gyah.

Happy spinning!

i have two shure M44 gs and they work fine. And on my setup i took the toning arm weight, turned it around, slid it all the way down the arm, put anti skate on 3, and height on 2... Never a skip, so easy to cue! I love it...and no, it doesnt screw up the needle or record

At those dutch party they use LabGruppen amps, those things are the best available! and the decks are suspended properly, you should check the video (if available), or go to such a party (next one: innercity, 29 december, after that one: trance energy, 16 februari)
