I wouldn't buy the legacy collection just for a 2 pole filter...

I HIGHLY recommend the Antares FilterVST.

Fruity Filter is ok. Fruity Free Filter is nice too. PSP Nitro is pretty cool. Some of the BlueTubes plugins are good.

I only use Antares Filter these days though.

I think this filter should take a lot of CPU jsut to do (in most of the cases) a simple cutoff variation... I don't think it's very useful to have something like this for a simple use.

yeah, i feel the same way.. A filter should be simple, small and cpu efficient... I used Antares Filter in the past, my cpu increased like a penis on viagra

So, that's why I think this filter is not so good. And in most of the case I think people don't use all the possibilities this filter provides.

I went on this trek a while ago - for people who are looking for just a simple filter like the ones in FL as opposed to fancy-pants shit that eats up money and CPU, try these three (all free):

Filterizer - standard LP/HP/BP/Notch filter, with one extra cool feature, the ability to control the cutoff by MIDI note, which can be easier than automation depending on your setup (in Cubase you would add the filter as a MIDI track and just play stuff on it).

KarmaFX Filter - has a 2-pole filter AND a 1-pole filter, which is good for anyone who's grown accustomed to tweaking the highpass/lowpass knobs on FL's filters.

Sponge - 2-pole filter with a nice integrated LFO and several different waveforms. Supposedly it's MIDI controllable - I'd love for that feature to actually work.

For 9 out of 10 people, any of those should be fine. If anyone has a simple filter that's MIDI controllable (for real), preferably with MIDI learn, I'd love to know... I really want to be able to assign filter parameters to the knobs on my keyboard without having to use Steinberg's god-awful Remote Control.

P.S. Fruity Filter is not a VST effect. None of FL's built-in instruments or effects are VST, as far as I know.

maybe kjaerhus classic filter? ohmboyz frogmahe or quad frohmage should support this feature also ..... i know their delay does

Kjaerhus Classic Filter is a good advice, but if you use Ohmboyz plugins you have to remember that their filter only permits frequency ranges from 40 to 10240Hz.
At least Frohmage and the Ohmboyz Delay- not shure about Quad-Frohmage.
For Cubase users I'd recommend Tonic-Filter- very CPU friendly and nice warm sound.
