Hey. The ATR20 has an impedance of 500ohms. I'm thinking thats in the medium impedence range but I cant remember. If that is in fact the case, and you were using the same cord with it that you are trying to use with the SM58 then I'm really not sure why your SM58 wouldnt be working. I'm not sure man, sorry. But I will say that you should be able to hook you stereo or whatever you your computer with a patch cable. That would really be the better way to go. Try that and see how that works out.

Cheers,
Zac

Yes ATR20 is 500ohms. However, i didn't use the same cord with it. ATR20 comes with a cord connected to it, I didnt have to buy a separate one.

Tell me this. You use SM58, lo-z XLR cord, and CP8201 transformer? And with this u simply connect it to the back of your computer or to your computer's mic slot?

Hey. I use an SM58 and my cord was called a standard XLR cable. Lo-z is the standard for microphone cords these days. They allow for very long distances. Think about it like if you filled a train tunnel with that wax I was talking about. You waste more fuel when the wax is packed in the tunnel but if its liquid then the train passes right through. With hi-z, the signal has to be pushed harder and runs out of... gas (for lack of a better term or oomph if you will), sooner than if theres almost nothing restricting it. So I do in fact have a lo-z XLR cable. I don't have it plugged directly into my computer though. I have it plugged into my mixer/amp config. My mixer is really why I bought the transformer because even in the lowest impedence setting, it was still well in the realm of hi-z forcing me to buy a transformer. Before I did that though, I tried the microphone directly plugged into my computer without success but once I got the transformer, both worked. I'd still recomend finding an amp. I think youll have a more enjoyable recording expirience if you do .

Cheers,
Zac
