The clash with the culture can refer to the original question, although I believe it strays from it somewhat. As the U.S. grew in both size (land) and production, more people were needed to continue growth. That's where the Chinese come in. As one person pointed out they were used extensively to build cross-country railroads, which resulted in many deaths of workers. However, to the owners this cheap labor was expendable as they were comming in in scores. However, as soon as the U.S. no longer needed them as expendable bodies to build rails and other undesirable work, Americans and Chinese immigrants began to clash as they began competiting over jobs, this goes without saying that there was backlash when a large number of rail construction jobs were going to the Chinese. It is the competition for jobs, in addition to cultural conflicts that create the clash shadowolf is talking about.
