I began the game wanting Liverpool to win it but by extra time I really wanted Milan to win. For 110 minutes Milan completely taught Liverpool a footballing lesson, but the major decisions (and luck) went massively against them. I really felt sorry for them when Shevchenko missed twice from about 1 yard. Milan played some scintillating football and made i a great final to watch, Liverpool were playing for penalties in extra time. I don't blame Liverpool for their defensive approach, they would have been outclassed if they'd tried to play football but this was the reason I wanted Milan to get what they deserved which was victory. Liverpool showed tremendous courage and deserve respect for that, but Milan showed both tremendous courage and tremendous skill and can feel very hard done by because they had some massive decisions against them which turned the tide of a very one-sided game. It was an amazing comeback but could not have been achieved without those decisions. Two of Liverpool's goals were very controversial.
Nesta couldn't do anything about that handball, it was never a penalty as he was actively trying to move his arm away from the ball, in other words ball to arm. |
PSV outplayed Milan on both occasions, and they were knocked out on away goals. Milan were lucky to get into the final because they were shown a footballing lesson from PSV so i guess it evens itself out.
You could tell soon as the ref blew or penalties that Liverpool would win., Just look at the faces of al Milan players and then the Liverpool players. I thought the Milan players were going to be sick.
Cant even believe ppl think Gerrard dived!! He was pulled back and clipped, going through on goal. Gerrard would have absolutely loved to have scored the goal, clean through, only keeper to beat. At that moment i have visions of him just absolutely bladdering the ball into the top corner.
I actually cant remember that offside decision, there were three in the first half that i remember being close but were correct, was the one you are talking about in the second half?
I think this match just states why FOOTBALL is the greatest sport on earth. Nothing could match this match for drama, excitement, shock and passion. Liverpool fans were brilliant, Gerrard was in tears. Have to say i goose bumps on two occasions, Dudek saving that penalty to win it and Gerrard lifting the cup. If you heard any of his interviews before the match, you would understand totally how much this meant to him, and he understood that most of all it meant allot to the fans.
Have to say Milan played some fabulus football, and the third goal will probably be of the best goals scored ever in a final, brilliant football, with a absolute gem of a pass with a clinical finish that Crespo made to look so easy!
I can understand how bitter the Milan fans are but at the end of the day, the linesman and ref are only human. We have the benefit of television and replays.
Well done Liverpool.
